What it does: You don’t need me to tell you that under-eye mascara smudges aren’t a good look. In fact, if you’re a beauty junkie, you’re probably already familiar with Kiss Me Mascara, a must-have product for preventing telltale raccoon eyes. But it looks like they have some new competition.
Kiss Me Mascara gained cult status because of its “tube” technology. In other words, the formula coats individual lashes with tubes of colour, which don’t flake, smudge or run—and at the end of the day, easily come off with warm water. Sounds great, right? Well, almost. Although I’m a long-time fan of Kiss Me, I usually save it for gym days or hot weather, because it doesn’t do much in the way of volume-building or lash-lengthening.
But leave it to L’Oréal Paris to answer my beauty prayers.
Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara is similar to Kiss Me’s version, but it works in two steps: First, you prime with a basecoat, which nourishes the lashes and ensures the top layer will go on evenly. Then, you brush on the colour topcoat, which uses the same tube technology—but extends lashes too.
Best suited for: L’Oréal Paris says this mascara will give you the look of salon lash extensions, so if you’re after a lush, dramatic look, then this is product for you. It’s also a great option if you’re like me and simply hate when mascara won’t stay put. (It’s also easier to find than Kiss Me, which isn’t widely distributed.)
