I know what you’re thinking. Brown—for evening wear? It can’t possibly look as good as black, right? Well, judging from Ms. Eva (shown here at a TV Guide party in Hollywood), it can be an unexpected and super-flattering choice for anyone with golden undertones in their skin. But the key to dressing up brown for night is to pair it with glam but subtle makeup in warm, peachy tones.
Start with a semi-matte foundation. But don’t go too dewy or you risk stepping into J.Lo-circa 1999 territory. For a pro application, use a foundation brush and blend the product from the centre of the face out. Generously sweep a golden-peach blush (NARS Orgasm will do nicely) across the apples of your cheeks, and pair it with a satiny lipstick or gloss in the same colour family. Play up the brown in your dress with brown eyeliner (or shadow as eyeliner). To make your eyes really pop, go for the blackest black mascara. Et voila! Brown’s not so boring after all.
