Olivia Newton-John and her new hubby, John Easterling (founder of the Amazon Herb Company) have plans to develop a health drink and skincare range featuring exotic fruits and plants from (duh) the Amazon. Called Zamu, the health drink features a fruit called camu camu. The skincare line is called Lluvia. Newton-John told In Touch magazine: “The products just leave you glowing.”
Personally, I think they’re on to something. More and more brands are seeking out rare and exotic ingredients from places like South America, Africa and the Arctic in order to tap into previously undiscovered skin- and hair-care benefits. (Ojon, L’Occitane and Weleda are a few other names that come to mind.) Giving back to the communities where the ingredients are harvested, by way of fair trade and community development projects, is a big beauty trend too. Let’s hope both are here to stay.
