What’s new: Guerlain Rouge G

What it is: Lipstick that doubles as an objet d’art.

What it does: Confession: I have a stash of to-die-for beauty booty that I’ve collected over the years, and a great deal of it—at least from YSL, Dior and Guerlain—is still in its original packaging. It’s just too darn pretty for me to mess it up by actually using it. Quelle horreur! I’d rather collect it. Some people hoard antiques, I hoard makeup.

This new lippie from Guerlain is going straight to my collection. The curvy, white-gold packaging was created by Lorenz Bäumer, a famous French jeweler, so it’s no wonder it looks like a little jewel itself. But it’s not just gorge to look at it. It’s completely functional, thanks to the hidden mirror that automatically opens when you click the button on the side.

Of course, if you want to actually use this, you’ll be happy to know it comes in 25 shades: 10 nudes ranging from light beige to chocolate brown, and 15 colours (I like Geisha, a cherry red, and Gaela, a strawberry pink). And while I can’t personally vouch for how it goes on, I have it on good authority that it has a smoothing and plumping effect, thanks to hyaluronic acid spheres and wild mango butter.

Priced at $48. Available at Guerlain Boutiques & Institutes in Toronto and Montreal and Holt Renfrew and Ogilvy stores across Canada.
