I know we’ve been hearing about the “Return of the 1980s” for a few seasons now, but it’s only within the past couple of weeks that I’ve actually felt like that pronouncement is true. First, I saw ELLE Canada‘s 80s-tastic September cover (I swear, it could have said September 1989 and I wouldn’t have known the difference). Then, I went shopping. Seems our sartorial options this year are limited to pleated pants, rolled-up cuffs, jazz shoes and the like. Ew.
But hey—maybe I can come around with the makeup, at least. Especially when it’s Chanel! (Mais oui!) Perhaps it’s the model’s short hair and plummy eyes and lips, but this pic feels très late-80s to me. Of course, that wasn’t the REAL inspiration for this look. It was Venice—apparently a city Mademoiselle Chanel adored. (I’m thinking that was before all the stinky pigeons took over.)
