First look: Stella McCartney Spring ’10

One thing which I will never, ever, understand, is how some women will don clothes that are short, tight, revealing and usually made of leather, along with stilettos, for DAYTIME on the WEEKEND. Maybe if this was happening in New York City or Paris, I’d buy it. But usually I spot these ladies on a Sunday morning in a suburban Toronto mall, and I’m just baffled. Really? You’re wearing THAT to pick up the six-pack of cotton undies at The Bay???

Equally distressing to me is when people overdo it on weekend daytime makeup. Of course, I love checking out the latest looks from the runways—as I hope do you—but that doesn’t mean I (we) want to see heavy foundation, glitter and a smoky eye on a Sunday morning. There is just NO NEED. AMIRITE?

Instead, let’s encourage these ladies to adopt the Pretty Weekend Face, epitomized best by Karlie Kloss here at Stella McCartney. I could stare at this picture all day.

covergirl outlastlipstain First look: Stella McCartney Spring 10What you’re gonna need is blush—TEYE Minerals makes a good cool-toned one—and most importantly, a lip stain. I’ve mentioned before how great CoverGirl’s Outlast Lipstains are, and you really can’t beat them for the price (just $8.69 at Go for a darker shade like Berry Smooch, and then slick on a clear gloss over top.

It’s hard to tell from this photo whether Ms. Kloss also has eyeliner on, but let’s pretend she does. (I *think* I detect a bit of black, verrrrry slightly winged-out liner on the upper lash line.) My favourite bargain liquid liner is Revlon’s Colorstay version (it has a good brush); you could also try Estée Lauder’s Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner. OR, for an even more subtle effect, just take a black or brown waterproof pencil and gently lift up your lashes to colour the inner rim of your upper lash line. It’ll make your lashes look instantly thicker and your eyes more awake… but NOBODY WILL KNOW you’ve got eye makeup on. Genius, no?

My go-to makeup look. Love it. And as you know, I’m awfully keen on that no-liner liner trick *grin*

My newest waterproof-liner love for inner upper-lid lining is Make Up Forever’s waterproof pencil in black, dark grey or dark brown. Even MORE smudge/smearproof than GOSH!

Thanks Susie! I love dissecting the runway stuff… too bad I only get the chance twice per year.
