Inspiration board: Olympic beauty

Post image for Inspiration board: Olympic beauty

With the Olympic Games in Vancouver overlapping this week with New York Fashion Week, it’s been hard to pay attention to the latter. So instead of following the trends on the catwalk—there’ll be loads of time for that later—I’m taking a cue from fresh-faced, athletic beauties like Maëlle Ricker and Lindsey Vonn. (In case you haven’t been tuning in, Ricker won a gold medal for Canada in snowboard cross, while Vonn, an American, struck gold in downhill skiing.) They’re just two examples of how gorgeous the natural look can be. (If only all of us could get those rosy cheeks and glowing skin sans makeup.) My guess? These ladies likely have a bare-bones beauty regimen that involves cold weather essentials like these.

1. Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

My new winter obsession. This sinks in right away and has a deliciously fruity scent. I love that you can wear it overnight—and because it’s clear (not blue or green!) you won’t go scaring anyone.

2. Green Beaver Après Ski Winter Lip Balm

I’m a huge fan of Green Beaver—and not just because founder Alain Ménard is one of the nicest guys around. This all-natural balm is a staple in my handbag. It’s hydrating and gives lips a nice shine without being overly greasy.

3. Clinique Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream

Don’t ever leave home without a good hand cream. This one is fast-absorbing—besides hands, massage it into your nails and cuticles to ward off brittleness.

4. Consonant Body Ultra Moisturizing Organic Face Cream

Everything I’ve tried from this Canadian organic beauty company has been amazing, so this dry-skin moisturizer should be no exception. When I read the ingredients on the label, I feel strangely comforted—there are absolutely no nasties.

5. L’Oréal Paris Everstrong Deep Replenishing Masque

At least once or twice a week, use a mask like this from about mid-way down your hair shaft through to the ends. I like this one because it’s sulfate-free.

6. Vaseline Intensive Rescue Clinical Therapy Skin Protectant Body Lotion

When you’ve got to call in the big guns, go for a no-nonsense clinical-strength product, which helps lock in moisture for 24 hours. BIG bonus: this has an amazing vanilla scent.
