Ah well—just when I thought (hoped?) the celebrity fragrance trend might be waning, I come across this report about Beyoncé’s first fragrance, called Beyoncé Heat, selling US$3 million in its first month on the shelves. During an in-store appearance in NYC, 72,000 bottles were sold in a single hour!
Now that IS impressive. But no surprises here—according to the expert nose at Now Smell This, it’s your typical fruity, synthetic-smelling, mass scent with notes of red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli, blush peach, honeysuckle nectar, almond macaroon, crème de musk, sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber.
(I believe “celebrity fruit-fest” is their term, which I’m officially adopting… although the musk and amber make it slightly warmer.)
Despite what the beauty pundits are saying, though (including moi—an admitted fragrance snob), even if it’s not exactly what you’d call unique, it does smell GOOD. Could sales be in the millions if it didn’t?
Available now at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores across Canada.
