More YSL to lust after!
The summer collection is out now and as usual, I’ve fallen under the YSL spell. (Maybe it’s this photo of Karlie Kloss. I am MESMERIZED.)
I think you’ll love what she’s selling too, though. (How great are these brights? Somehow they manage to make blue liner, purple nails and a coral lip—ALL WORN AT THE SAME TIME—look chic. I don’t know how they do it but I want IN.)
YSL was nice enough to send me a few things to try (I love you longtime, YSL!). Here are my top picks:
YSL Gloss Pur Pure Lip Gloss in No. 8 – Pure Watermelon ($34)
This is what Karlie’s wearing in the pic above: a highly pigmented gloss that ironically, smells like watermelon too (that’s YSL’s signature fruity makeup scent). I know I’m more about the lipsticks lately, but this gloss is so saturated with colour (a creamy, pinky coral) that I make an exception. A delight to wear, truly. (And available in three other new colours, all permanent additions to the basic collection.)
YSL Terre Saharienne Poudre de Soleil Bronzing Powder SPF 12 in Sand ($60)
I’m slowly getting over my fear of bronzing powders (I’m so pale that I worry they’ll make me look like a Jersey Shore cast member). This one, in Sand, is so barely there, it’s perfect for ghostly white girls like me. It’s got some pinky pigment too, so you end up with a lovely healthy glow that’s not at all overdone. It’s available in two other shades (both new basic products).
YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant Water-Resistant Eye Shadow in No. 5 – Golden Sands ($35)
As you may know, one of my all-time fave products is Dior’s shimmery, waterproof shadow-in-a-pot. Well, move over, Dior, because this one rivals it in finish and longevity. It’s a shimmery, golden cream shadow (much more liquid-y than Dior’s) that you apply with a little brush. SO, SO gorgeous along the upper and lower lashline. It’s a new staple in my makeup bag. (And if you want to go more daring, Karlie’s wearing the limited-edition version in No. 19 – Riviera Blue in the pic above.)
YSL La Laque Long-Lasting Nail Lacquer in No. 142 – Ultra Orange ($24, limited edition)
This summer, I’ve been into orangey shades in a big way for my pedicures. (And when they’re on your toenails or fingernails instead of your lips, you don’t have to worry about them making your teeth look yellow, etc.) Seriously, try this—I never thought I was an orange kind of girl, but it’s really pretty and unexpected.
YSL Rouge Pure Shine Sheer Lipstick SPF 15 in No. 94 – Blood Orange ($35, limited edition)
Another orange for you—but again, so incredibly wearable I plan to rock this shade all summer. (Trust me; I would not steer you wrong!) What makes it work? It’s a very sheer shade with lots of pink in it and a very slight hint of shimmer. And it’s bright, but not too bright—just enough to make your entire face look fresh and young and summery. Honestly, it’s another new fave.
