Aside from their famous Photo Finish Primer, I’m not really a Smashbox girl. No real reason why, but wowza—that might change, because I had so much fun playing around with their new fall collection.
Now you know I’m not that much of a makeup junkie (well, aside from the fact that, like all beauty editors, I have an encyclopedic memory for beauty products—which I showed off the other night when I recited the name of a Clarins product from 2005). But THIS is makeup I can totally get into—yes, on a daily basis. It’s dramatic but still very wearable, and there are a couple of VERY cool little innovations.
Here’s the video:
And if I could buy just two things, they’d be this smart little blush…
… and this magical, colour-changing lip gloss:
Watch the vid to get all the deets, and then tell me—
Are you a Smashbox fan?
What do you think of this collection?
Are you better at applying eyeshadow than I am? (Yes, I’d probably wager a bet that you are…)

Aww it’s nice to put a face to the blog! Love your vids – you’re such a beauty and the reviews are great. I don’t use a lot of Smashbox products but have always been a fan of their primer. But definitely intrigued by the stick blush and Noir gloss!
Thanks Joy! Yes, def give the gloss a whirl if you see it in stores – I wouldn’t wear it yet when we are still having 30 (or today, 40!) degree weather. But come Oct or Nov I think that purple shade is going to rock.
You’re rocking a seriously great brow in this vid. Did you use the new Taupe Brow Tech to Go? That’s my fave from the new Smashbox collection.
Thanks mate! My brows are actually au naturel here – I always forget to use brow pencil. When I do, it’s the Dior one from last year… I didn’t get sent the Smashbox one… boo hoo
this isn’t related to the post, but could you recommend a lip plumper (gloss or balm) that actually works i’m having such a hard time with plumpers they tingle for a bit but I dont see any volume in my lips. the latest one I bought was from the drugstore from sally hansen and it did absolutely NOTHING, its just glossy and tingles for a bit. I might as well rub mint or cinnamon oil on my lips.
Hi Kat, this might be one I’ll throw out to the Twitterverse to get some recommendations – I have to confess that I don’t use lip plumpers myself as I can’t stand that tingly sensation. (And with some have found them so irritating that they dry out my lips.) So bear with me – I’ll try and do a post on this soon.
You’re doing a bang up job of the video reviews!! I’ve only really tried the Photofinish primer but I didn’t get what the fuss was about. I also bought the Monistat Anti-Chafing gel since I read it was a cheaper version of the product, I honestly couldn’t tell the difference! I think my face may be too oily for all those silicones, anyway.
And haha at JLo circa 1999.
Thanks Alex! Re: Photo Finish – me neither! So many people rave about it but there are other primers I find much better. (Right now, the most effective one at stopping the oil is the Shu Uemura Under Base. Got lots of chemicals but WOW does it ever work.)
But CRAZY about the Monistat! That’s hilarious – where did you hear about that?
Hmm… can’t remember where I read that, either on Makeup Alley or on one of the many beauty blogs I used to read for work.
The hard part is finding the Monistat gel!
I’ve been doing well with Neostrata Oil Free Mattifying Gel, especially with this crazy hot summer weather.
Had to tweet that – too funny!
I like the Neostrata mattifier as well!
Hey Michelle!
I never thought to mix brown and blue shadows before … Any chance you can do a closeup on your eye so we can see the colours even better? I’m looking for some new fall shadows and blue could be an interesting addition … or is it a bad idea for a fair skinned brunette?
I have the original O Gloss and I can’t WAIT to try the new one!
Yes! I love navy! It’s gorgeous with fair skin – would be very pretty with your colouring… a bit softer than black and more interesting than grey or brown.
I’ll see if I can zoom in on the photo when I’m back at my computer (the other one).
