…And, okay, worsts too. Because we’re not above a little bit of constructive beauty criticism ’round these here parts.

But obviously when it comes to the Grammy Awards, we give a bit more leeway. Because musicians are, you know, creative and stuff—and that’s why I find myself endorsing things that would otherwise be clownish in real life, such as Rihanna’s matchy-matchy red hair/lips/eyelids, and Katy Perry’s rainbow eye makeup. But more on those later, because first, can we talk about Lea Michele?

FREAKIN’ FANTASTIC, I say. Just ignore that hair that appears to be stuck in her lipstick and instead appreciate the lipstick colour itself (which is kind of like my current fave nail polish shade, OPI’s Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em, so no wonder I like it). Hair is also natural and effortless, and you know what? Even her brows are not bothering me today.

For me, Lea wins. But there were a few other peeps who looked fab too: Dianna Agron, Selena Gomez, and BFFs Gwyneth and Beyoncé (BUT OF COURSE). Let’s take a look, and then we can snark about everyone else’s random beauty weirdness…

So first up are Gwyneth Paltrow and a blonde Beyoncé:

Glowing skin, softly waved hair, tasteful nude makeup, cellulite-free thighs, zillion-dollar diamond rings… I just can’t take it! Can you? By the way, I love Gwynnie’s Day-Glo nail polish colour.

Selena Gomez is always fresh and cute on the red carpet:

Love that pink lip gloss. Maybe the hair extensions are a bit too long, but it’s Hollywood so what do I know.

Dianna Agron is quickly becoming one of my red carpet faves:

That is some FIERCE eyeshadow, no? I once read that the way to do this is by applying the shadow first and THEN wiping it off at the edges so that you get that precise, hard line. Now I want to try it. I love the hair too: slicked-back on the sides but voluminous on top.

Here is Julianne Hough:

Generally pretty cute—I really like her hair. Maybe I’m being paranoid here, but I think I detect some bunny lines around the nose, a well as plumping action in the lower lip. (And I don’t mean the lip gloss kind.) Just me?

If you don’t know who Sara Bareilles is, she was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. And she also excels at this Fendi-esque updo:

Sara Bareilles 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Do you like it? I’m kind of digging it… although perhaps would’ve liked to see it a bit fuzzier, like the runway version.

Haven’t seen a pic of Selma Blair (who is preggers) in what feels like forever:

Selma Blair 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Okay, so even though I am 100 percent PRO long bangs, I don’t like the hair in her eyes. And yet, I am still intrigued by this bronzey shadow. It looks kind of cool with the navy dress and her dark hair, doesn’t it? Really wished she’d pulled back the hair.

Next up is my Nic. I say “my” because the most recent person to tell me I resemble her was Oribe. I’m never sure whether to be flattered or offended…

And this look is no exception. The hair is good, and the makeup is fine, but there is still weirdness going on with the upper lip. Injections or a new set of veneers?

Here’s Jennifer Hudson, who recently slimmed down A LOT:

I’ve always thought Jen was a gorgeous, gorgeous girl, but I’m not sure how I feel about this weight loss. Yes, it’s probably (hopefully?) healthier, but as you can see here, she’s lost that pretty plumpness to her face and it’s emphasizing the lines around her mouth a bit. Also: Is it just me or do her boobs look… off?

Oh Jennifer Lopez, you never stop:

Jennifer Lopez 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Not much to say here, except that it’s typical J. Lo., and it could be 2001 or 2011—you’d really never know from looking at this photo.

And speaking of J. Lo., I think Kim Kardashian is picking up a lot of her beauty tips:

Kim Kardashian 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Same parted, glossy lips, you see? And über-long hair. Kim has mixed it up this time, however, by adding some coppery highlights. I don’t like them.

You know who is, in turn, getting beauty tips from Kim? Eva Longoria:

Eva Longoria 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Those lashes! Make them stop. Also notice that Eva is doing the same thing as Kim in the under-eye area: applying way too much concealer and in too light of a colour. It’s off-putting.

And yet, she is in good company with this caked-on makeup because whaddayaknow? Here’s Katy Perry:

Katy Perry 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

At first glance, the rainbow theme kind of makes me smile—and I get it, it’s the Grammys. I just wish it wasn’t so mask-like. Combined with the too-solid colour hair, she looks like a doll. Russell? How do you feel about this?

Miley Cyrus is not only back on the extensions train, but has also lightened her colour a bit:

Miley Cyrus 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

A little brassy, a little streaky, but not bad. I guess.

Now, Kelly Osbourne:

Kelly Osbourne 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

I really love watching Kells on that Joan Rivers show, but what happens when this bird hits the red carpet? Somehow her hair morphs into something stiff and choppy and ’80s. And I’m no fan of the mauvey lipstick either.

And now for something a little different. Florence Welch (nominated for Best New Artist):

Florence Welch 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

Maybe it’s just because I still have a Christina Hendricks-inspired thing for red hair, but I like this. Like the cut, like the texture, like the dress (swans!), like the minimal makeup.

Also in the red hair camp was Rihanna:

Rihanna 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

And only RiRi could pull off putting red all over her eyelids and lips in addition to the hair.

Someone who cannot, however, is Hayley Williams (nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals):

Hayley Williams 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

This is Not Cute.

Snooki is always a crowd-pleaser:

Snooki 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

And this isn’t bad… for Snooki. I’m not completely offended by the ’60s-ish hairdo, actually. But obviously we want her to lose the earrings, 10 inches of eye makeup, and embark on a Crest Whitestrips program for a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, I am still concerned for Christina Aguilera:

Looks like that bloated Moon Face is still happening. I am, on the other hand, enjoying the (short, red, rounded) manicure.

And oh! Did I say “forget Gaga and Minaj?” Well, what would a Grammy Awards re-cap be without at least showing you a couple more pics?

Here’s Nicki:

Nicki Minaj 2011 Grammy Awards Forget Gaga and Minaj—has Lea Michele ever looked this fantastic? Heres your round up of the 2011 Grammys beauty bests...

And here’s what I’ve got for Gaga. Yes, she arrived in an egg.

Did you watch the Grammy Awards?
Which was the best look? Worst look? (Did I leave anyone out here?)
And oh yeah—it’s Valentine’s Day. Doing anything fun tonight?

I’m definitely diggin’ a lot of these. Looove Lea Michele’s lipstick color (if only it wasn’t so glossy). I am not a fan of Diana Agron, however; something about her says “aloof” to me. Snooki actually did well last night, and what else would you expect from Gaga? Also, “Nic” is a beautiful woman ..underneath all that synthetic-ness — you should be flattered! Great round-up of looks!

I can see that Diana Agron could have a bit of the bitch face. I don’t watch Glee so no idea about her otherwise. (Although I HAVE seen enough of Lea Michele’s antics – eg the faux tears at the Globes – to know what she’s all about! But a beauty win is a beauty win… have to give credit where it’s due.)

LOL LOVED your recap, Michelle!

Gwyneth looked amazing and she can belt it out which made me heart her that much more post performance!
Julianna Hough looks…off. there’s def. something not right going on in the nose area, at the very least. I thought Jen Hudson looked gorgeous on camera. In pictures, the thought didn’t seem to translate however. and in this pic you have here, her stretch marks really stand out. You’ve got a very valid point about the drastic weight loss perhaps working against her overall.
And LOL RE: J.LO 2001 vs. 2011= SO true!
NOT a fan of Kim’s copper scenario either. and the lashes on her and Eva Longoria look like they’re ready for lift off: not cool.
I thought Rihanna’s hair and makeup was really pretty. I love how you point out details i don’t necessarily initially notice, like RiRi wearing red eye shadow! had to take a second look!
LOVE that you posted back to back shots of Snooki (is it just me or has she quit the tanning beds of late?!) and C.Aguilera cause last night on Twitter, someone commented that Christina looks like the blond version of Snooki!! There’s some truth to that, no?! lol.

Cosign! Xtina is totally the blonde cousin of Snooki! Maybe because Snooki is stepping it up a bit and Xtina is getting more trashy and they are meeting somewhere in the middle…

Her skin looks fan-cussing-tastic…..let’s all just get pregs.
I think her dress is a very cool change as well – sigh, she’s so much cooler when she’s sleeping with a rocker.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Let’s all get pregs indeed!

Seriously though – I think if I attempted that dress – pregnant or not – there’d be chub escaping left right and centre.

Oh my… So many things to comment on!!

No it’s not just you Michelle, Julianne Hough looks like she could be Julianne Hough’s mother on this picture. Selma Blair also struck me hard in the aging department, I was watching her in Legally Blonde last week on Cosmo, and.. yeah. Doesn’t make us feel any younger either.. :P

As for Jen Hudson, her weight loss is COMPLETELY responsible for the saggy boobs. When you lose so much weight so quickly, your skin doesn’t have time to adjust (especially if you’re older and it already lost much of it’s elasticity). That’s why her boobs, and even her face look awkward still, she needs more time to tone and get firm.

I have to say, Nicki Minaj’s been doing everything she can to deter our attention from her ginormous hips, and gawd, I think she just might’ve succeeded with that hairdo!!! And what’s up with Kim Kardashian’s faux eyelashes?! These things look freakin’ alive!! It’s scary.

Oh BTW, Nicole looks gorgeous there, and so does she in the Feb. edition of Harper’s Bazaar!! Plus she seems so sweet.. I’d be glad to have her as my doppelganger! She is biutifeul, and so are you! <3

I just noticed the stretch marks on Jen Hudson’s arms! Yikes. I think it’s awesome that she lost weight but I wonder if she lost it too fast.

I had no idea Nicki had big hips so the tactic worked on me!

Okay, I would be THRILLED if that was the extent of my cellulite problem. Been reading this blog – it’s great: http://www.celluliteinvestigation.com/

I watched The Grammys … hardcore. The 2hr red carpet coverage on E! and the full broadcast after.

Selena Gomez is on my list of Bests this year. Her dress: gorgeous but still age appropriate (not too much cleave). And her face was pretty much perfect. Maybe a touch more blush, but still pretty nice. She’s becoming quite the woman.

Diana Agron: She looked amazing on the red carpet, but I’m SO glad you showed this close up!! She looks absolutely gorgeous!! I need to try this look. And she totally nailed it, right? Nice subtle lip to balance out the strong eye. Definitely my fave in your mentions, Michelle.

Nicole Kidman: Totally made up for her mediocre Golden Globes attempt. It’s probably her Bo, but she looks much more refreshed here than at The Globes. Plus her gown was so pretty. Quite impressive for a Grammy red carpet. I’d expect her to look this good at The Oscars!

Jennifer Hudson: I hear ya on the boob thing. She does look fantastic though.

J-Lo: I LOVED her Pucci dress!! BUT her face is so typical. I wish she’d change it up a bit.

Kim Kardashian … and Eva Longoria?? WTF happened here?!? This is typical of Kim, but Eva?? She is so stunning. Why are you taking beauty tips from the Queen of Over Lash??

Kelly Osborne: I JUST finished watching Joan Rivers’ Grammy special, and Kelly looked FANTASTIC!! GREAT hair, nice makeup… How did she get it so wrong on the red carpet last night? And does anyone find it a bit odd that people are now taking fashion and beauty advice from Ozzy’s daughter?? She’s totally transformed herself, which is great … but it’s so strange. The woman used to have pink hair!!

Gaga … after arriving in an egg I was expecting something WAY more fantastic than a skin-toned latex 2 piece. With no red carpet appearance we can’t see what her face looked like … which I think is okay.

The rest are so blah. Oh, and did you know that Nicki Minaj’s outfit is making BEST dressed lists??

I know, right?!? The dress she wore was straight off the Givenchy runway … and should have stayed there. It MIGHT have been better with a little less hair, but it’s still a bit much for me.

Diana Agron’s close-up is soooo fab. I didn’t watch but saw some stills of her in her dress and she looked a bit uncomfortable.

Snooki has a normal skin tone (and you can SEE her skin!) which is great. Her and Kim look like they have the same neck/décolleté glitter… Kim’s eyeshadow matches her highlights which weirds me right out. And JLo has so. much. hair.

For sure Kim and J. Lo are wearing hair extensions. Maybe Snooki too – who knows! That one is a future post topic for sure… I find it so interesting how she’s morphing from tacky Jersey Shore guidette to this sort of acceptable sophisticated look. Not quite there yet, but I have to give her credit because she’s come a looong way from the trucker hats etc.!

I love the softer makeup look at lot of the stars were sporting at the beginning. Very beautiful and flattering. I’m not sure about Katy Perry’s makeup though – the way it’s been applied on her lower lashline makes it look like she has very rounded eyes and baggy skin. I normally love her various looks but this isn’t the most flattering on her.

She does that a lot with her eyes now, doesn’t she? I agree – they look too round and doll-like… but perhaps that’s what she’s going for. Too bad she doesn’t go around with the look from the Teenage Dream video – Katy is so pretty au naturel!
