So Kim Kardashian got married this weekend: I guess we should say “kongratulations!” And then analyze the hair and makeup…

Kim Kardashian wedding makeup

You know what’s cringey? When people refer to Kim Kardashian’s nuptials as “America’s royal wedding.” Um, no. Maybe the guest list and price tags were similar, but to me it was more of an over-the-top Trista and Ryan sort of affair. Times one thousand. Plus, call me cynical, but it’s just a little too convenient—konvenient—that Kim married a Kris. With a K. I’m anticipating the Kim & Kris TV spin-off already.

Anyway! Snark aside, who doesn’t love gawking at a celebrity wedding, I ask you? It’s been a great summer for that, starting with Will and Kate, of course, and then Kate Moss and Jamie Hince. Now we have Kim and her new hubby, Kris Humphries (who should really just change his name to Kardashian at this point and call it a day). They got hitched on Saturday… and I am reluctantly going to come out and say that I really love Kim’s look. So sue me. Do you? Let’s discuss.

So first things first. I love the diamond headpiece. LOVE. IT.

Kim Kardashian headpiece So Kim Kardashian got married this weekend: I guess we should say kongratulations! And then analyze the hair and makeup...

When people kept making the whole “princess” comparison I was afraid we’d see Kim walk down the aisle in an actual tiara, which would’ve made her look like a poor man’s Kate Middleton (or something out of that Gypsy Wedding show). But this is more “Armenian princess”—it’s exotic and glamorous and also exciting for those of us with a penchant for Nicole Richie-style headbands that sit across the forehead instead of on top of the head. No word yet on where it’s from, although the lace veil (and the dress) are Vera Wang, of course.

I love that she paired it with a simple, slicked-back low bun. If only my hair would produce one of that magnitude. For those of us without extensions, I hear there is a donut thing that allows it to be done. I need to research this, because in my attempt to copy Lucy Liu’s hair (as well as lipstick) for the wedding I attended last week, even copious amounts of Redken’s gel slush texturizer and a whole handful of spin pins couldn’t help my Size S side bun. Sigh.

Now let’s move on to makeup. As I reported last week, Kim’s makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, was asking people for ideas on her look—”radiant/natural or sexy/glam”—but remained tight-lipped right up until the wedding. Now, I don’t know if it’s just me, but… isn’t this kind of radiant, natural, sexy and glam all at once?

I kind of think so. To me, she looks a lot less plastic and mask-like than usual, although it’s possible that’s just because this is the only up-close photo I can find and it’s not great quality. I’m sure there’s as much makeup on that mug as ever.

Anyway, it wouldn’t be a Kim Kardashian public appearance without the signature Kardashian touches: a zillion false lashes, smoked-out eyes, tanned skin and contouring. I could have done with a less dramatic eye here, but I like that she at least kept the colour to the upper lid, instead of underneath the eye, for a cleaner look.

The other thing of note is that Kim traded her usual nude lip for a pink gloss. AND she’s wearing loads of my favourite makeup category: blush. Hooray! I think the pink touches are what brings this look into bridal territory. I’ve gotta say, I do approve.

If only the dress wasn’t quite so boobalicious. (Although I wouldn’t expect anything less. Er, more…)

As for the rest of the fam, well, everybody got to look like a bride for the day! Seriously, the dress code was black and white—and mom Kris and daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner also wore tight, long, strapless white dresses. Hmmm…

Oh, LiLo. Put those boobs away, girl!

Tell me:
Was Kim a gorgeous bride or too Gypsy-bride?
How do you feel about her hair and makeup?
Do you like the black and white theme or is having all the guests in white dresses a bit too… krazy?

Although the makeup is a bit too heavy for my taste as well, I feel it’s the “Kardashian look”, a “katchphrase” if you will, so I can’t imagine a toned down look ever. Her hair is perfectly glam and bridal, and I love that, although I’m thinking that in ten or even five years, that headband is going to become a mistake. It’s ridiculous to have hundreds of guests that look like brides, though. But I’m speechless about Kris. That bow is krazy.

I think she looks great, however I wish the earrings were a bit more understated. The headpiece is lovely, but I think the earrings distract from it. Wow, that’s really bad grammar, but you get what I’m saying!

I have never seen her looking so happy and radiant in my life. Personally, I am totally and fully in love with the Kardashians, and have been coveting this wedding for months! I kind of don’t get the white and black theme though, it just looks like one of those mass weddings that they have for people with not so much money, just with a lot of Chanel.

I love Kim’s makeup to be honest. I don’t see the point in going any less than her eye makeup for a wedding, especially since it must have been filmed, and she wants her eyes to stand out for the HD camera, right?

Huge fan, hyper-hair-colour-aware Thomas xx

LOL, LiLo needs to put more than her boobs away: I haven’t seen her in soooo long and am literally speechless at her face!! She looks AWFUL, sooo aged and maybe worse, now her mom actually looks that that much less cray cray standing next to her. jeeezzzus.

Kim’s headpiece seems right on par with her style ethos so it’s a thumbs up for me :) and i for serious DO NOT understand this everybody-in-the-weddingparty-wears-white trend….is it a trend? lol. As you mention, they all get to be bride for a day. awwwwkkkkward. and Kris’ bow. too much, even for a Kardashian ;) and LOL on the spin off point: it’s only a matter of time. And I too, found it a little repulsive that they were commenting this as the Hollywood wedding of the year. Reallllyyyy? C’mon now.

And Yes, Michelle! You need to get yourself a donut! It works! My colleagues and I searched online and every tacky prod store high and low, til one of us actually brought the team one home from NYC and we tried it with a little youtube tutorial help and it at least doubles the size of your hair’s chignon potential ;)

you can make a hair donut with panty hose. just cut off the leg and roll it up. works great, i’ve been doing it for at least 20 years.

Ok, i know that this isn’t one of those b*t*hy and mean-spirited sites but hahahahahahaha LOOK at Khloe’s dirty look in that first pic!

It’s funny, I do actually think her makeup is nice too. A bit too heavy as usual but she prob wouldn’t have it any other way. And you gotta hand it to her.. no eagle/reverse eagle/the right shade of concealer. Or else the ONE photo that seems to be released was very flattering!

This is def the makeup my Mom will want to do for my wedding if i ever do get married! (she’s a MUA) It would be a battle of wills between her and my own personal fav- Rachel McAdams at Cannes! That photo of her in white is just amazing…

I love the diamond headpiece as well. The make-up is so overdone! And is anyone else tired of her million fake eyelashes look?

Monday, August 22/2011 at 3:41 pm

I just made my own donut with a sock.
This is a pretty easy, straightforward video:

that was great! i saw another girl who made one from a leg warmer for a bigger bun :) and i found this tutorial to use the donut in a few ways (her accent is awesome! ;)
i wish i had her extensions!!

Ummm. I do like your take on the wedding

I’m digging that pinky-purple lip gloss! It’s a nice change from the nude lip.

It would have been nice to see a lot less eye makeup. With dark hair, brows and eyes, adding all that dark eye makeup is too much.

Dare I say it? Kim almost looks pretty?? What is it about the Kards that make me feel so extra bitchy and unsympathetic?

I agree this is 100000000x better than her usual 100 pounds of makeup. Somewhere underneath all that false lash and foundation is a real person. Maybe.

As for the boobs, I don’t think it could be helped. To cover would make her look fat (which she isn’t), so that means baring some skin and cleavage which is a constant state of normal for the well-endowed (NOT me).

Monday, August 22/2011 at 10:50 pm

As someone who IS fairly well-endowed I have to agree with Liz. It’s damn difficult to put those things away and I think what cleavage she has is tasteful given her size. Lilo on the other hand… not so much.
I do think Kim looks quite good here, I’m glad she went a tiny bit less full on with her makeup. The pink gloss is perfect. I also really like her head piece.

I love that she did not do a smokey eye. Since she always wears that look. I also love that she was a blushing bride. She had such a soft pretty pink blush on.

I actually like her makeup a lot here. I think that since her hair isn’t in those usual waves and her lips aren’t nude and glossy, she looks a lot more fresh and bridal than usual (I’m using the word fresh loosely here, because she is still wearing a lot of makeup but it looks a lot more wedding-appropriate than usual). Love the diamond headpiece!

As for the black and white dress code, I find that a bit weird. If it were my wedding day, I definitely wouldn’t want anyone else to be in a wedding-y dress. But to each her own, I guess!

She looks as beautiful and as plastic as always. She is always those two things to me, a very beautiful girl whose aesthetic grosses me out a little bit. But Lilo, holy moley! I didn’t even recognize her! That is Trashy with a capital T. So sad when you think about the cute saucy redhead she once was…

Tuesday, August 23/2011 at 8:10 pm

My daughter & were looking at some before pics of Kim circa 2006. She looks completely different and it makes me kind of sad that she felt the need to change what was already incredibly beautiful to plastic.

That said, I did not think of the Gypsy Wedding until you mentioned it and now I shall LOL ;)

Here’s a MAKEUP TUTORIAL on Kim Kardashian’s Wedding/bridal look! Its Her Signature Eyes, with Blushing bride cheeks and pouty red Lips that she sported, instead of her classic pink/nudes.

Saturday, August 27/2011 at 3:05 pm

To me it all looked so artificial, posed and stylised. The zillion lashes and the heavy makeup was her usual look and the amount of boobage – I dunno.. just didn’t exactly look fresh, new or romantic. It looked klassic Kardashian karnage karnival! Very Elton John white tie & tiara ball and Hello magazine. It’s just her usual but in white. Meh.
