Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

Ralph Lauren fall 2011

Orange lipstick. Bronzey skin. Bright green eyeliner. We had a good run, summer makeup, but in approximately three weeks it will be time to officially retire you and move to on more autumnal offerings. (Well, only if you WANT to, that is. After all, I am the person who said there aren’t really any more “colour rules” when it comes to makeup.)

Anyway, since it’s the first weekend in September, I’m mentally making the shift towards all things fall-ish. Just like I want to run out and buy new school supplies (even though I have zero intention of ever returning to school), the season also has me yearning for a smokier eye… a darker lip… and maybe skin that holds on to luminizing products instead of sweating them right off. Don’t those things sound nice?

So I say it’s time for a refresher! We haven’t talked about fall Fashion Week trends since March (!), so today I bring you five of the most real-life wearable trends that you’ll want to hop on board with starting this month. Maybe even this weekend.

(My editor’s picks vids will return—just figured you might be doing some fall shopping this weekend!)

1. EASE INTO FALL WITH A PINK (NOT FUCHSIA) LIP

PFW F11 Nina Ricci 4 Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

If you’ve been wearing fuchsia for a while—or you’re not ready to go for a full-on bright lip—then I think this salmon pink (at Nina Ricci) is a lovely update. It’s a bit less in-your-face than fuchsia, but a bit more grown-up… and I especially like it with the brown tones on the eyelids (more on that in a sec).

Prodz to try: Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Génial or Charme, CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Fairytale (reviewed here), Marcelle Rouge Xpression Lipstick in Paris Rose, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink in the Afternoon

2. DO A RED LIP, YES, BUT MAKE IT A JUICY, ORANGEY-RED LIP

Ralph Lauren fall 2011 Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

Everyone wants red lipstick for fall. That’s nevah gonna change. But this year, perhaps influenced by the big orange trend for spring, I feel like the best reds have a juicy, bright, orangey quality to them as well (that’s Ralph Lauren above). A little bit more flattering than those dark burgundies, don’t you think?

Prodz to try: Estée Lauder Pure Color Lipstick in Red Velvet, NARS Lipstick in Jungle Red

3. CHUNK UP YOUR LASHES

MFW F11 Gucci 2 Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

Blame the Kardashians. Or the arrival of Latisse to Canada. Eyelashes are still very much a big deal, and this season the trend is to coat each individual hair with mascara for a chunky, spidery effect.

Prodz to try: Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara (reviewed here), Maybelline New York The Falsies Volum’Express Mascara (reviewed here)

4. REMEMBER THE EYESHADOW ALL-THE-WAY-UP-TO-THE-BROW LOOK?

Chanel fall 2011 makeup backstage Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

Well, I wouldn’t have advised that for summer (Smudge City), but once the weather cools down, you have my full permission to try it! Stick with a reasonably pale colour, like a warm brownish tone, or go for something more sultry like the metallic above (at Chanel).

Prodz to try: Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Épatant (reviewed here), L’Oréal Paris La Couleur Infallible Eyeshadow in Flashback Silver (reviewed here), Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow in Khaki Pulse (reviewed here)

5. GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR TRUSTY BLACK EYELINER

Emilio Pucci fall 2011 Now that September is here, my job is to (gently) nudge you toward the fall makeup trends—here are 5 of the prettiest to try NOW!

There were a million ways to wear black eyeliner on the runways, so all I can advise is: DEWIT! The retro-style, upper lashline-only liner is always a classic, but we’re also seeing more emphasis on the bottom lid (like the smudgy look above at Emilio Pucci), so get creative… if you dare.

Prodz to try: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black Ink (reviewed here), Yves Rocher Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black (reviewed here)

Are you ready to switch over to fall makeup yet?
Which look are you most excited about busting out this season?

I LOVE the orangey-red lip–bought NARS Heatwave the other day (I’m a bit late to the party on the orange lip trend but am happy to see I can still rock it this fall!)

I’ll be switching my fave shade of bright orange lipstick from M•A•C “Morange”, which I wore practically every other day this summer, to the slightly rouge-ier orange-red “So Chaud” from the same brand. The rich matte finish feels just right for Fall to me.

Oh, and I love the soft, balmy finish seen on the model shot you’ve shown— I’ll definitely be wearing it like that during that awkward not-quite summer-but-not-quite-fall-yet September transition!

Love these trends but my only problem is with the orange-y red lip.. it makes your teeth look yellow!

Can you wear pink lipstick if your skin isn’t completely clear, or is it just as problematic as red?

No! I can’t abandon my pale peachy/pink lip. I just like a natural looking lipstick or gloss all year around.

I blame J.Lo’s Love Don’t Cost a Thing video for my peach lip gloss addiction!

Hi! I’m here again. I must say I love this new trend :) i also would like to ask you a question I have thinking lately. I have big lips and I decided once to try the classical red lipstick. I took pics of it and the comments were in approval. But some weeks ago a friend told me: you don’t look good with red lipstick. Nor with dark shadows (smokey eye) and I started to feel self conscious. I don’t know if she was the only brave one to tell me those sad news lol or she read that somewhere and believes in it. She didn’t see me with red lipstick in real life. Just in pictures. I want to take the attitude of: I don’t care but I don’t want to scare someone with my red mouth lol so I really need your advice. :) thank you!!!

In my opinion – red lipstick suits everyone… i’ve never seen it on someone and thought it looked bad – it always looks bold, and sexy! So i’d say that your friend might be a makeup prude and you should rock your big red juicy vivacious lips!

I love the very subtle eye makeup on the model in the red-orange lippie photo. I am slowly working up to red-red lipstick for day, and I like the clean look of that shadow. Plus, I own an indentical colour. :) I usually focus on my eyes, since they’re a little on the small side, but respond well to makeup. So red lippie for day (without my mondo-neo-goth smoky eyes for night) is a big step.

Red-orange looks vicious on me, you can’t see any of my other features, just the glowing lips!

I love all of these too. Especially spider lashes and pink lips.

For Nina Ricci’s salmon pink lips, Nars’ lip pencil in Bolero is almost identical. http://www.narscosmetics.com/color/lips/velvet-matte-lip-pencil/bolero

definitely going with #1 (especially matte pink) and #2 (although i’m going with a more fire engine red). i’ve also been obsessed with nudes & have decided that’ll be one of my go-to lip shades for the fall :).

I’m digging the orange lip. I’ve been quite faithful to my guava lipstain all summer but I might need to check out some orange toned lipstick.

Ahhhhhh!!!!! Revlon Pink in the afternoon is AMAZING! Thank you so much for the reco., I got it last night and felt like a million bucks with it on. Seriously- I forgot that lipstick can do that!
Well, you’ve likely converted me back to the stick vs. gloss now. Thank you.
Siren from Revlon was my go to summer shade and this salmon pink trend of Pink in the afternoon and the like is so nice. I am over the overdone “darker lip” once fall comes around. Nice to see a change! AND with the metallic nails vs. the straight up darker polish. (which I do still did) I picked up a Sally Hanson polish in Ty’in the knot, which has the silver/gold flecked metallic colour. Well, not QUITE like Dior, but nice.

Does anyone know what shade of orangey-red deliciousness the model is wearing?
