10 star products from the holiday ’11 makeup collections—buy now before they’re gone forevah!

Holiday makeup

Holiday makeup collections are awesome for many reasons. First of all, the packaging is usually WAY prettier than the regular stuff you can buy. So you can totes make everyone swoon when you pull it out of your handbag or when they come over and see it sitting pretty in your bedroom. (OR, if you’re a geeky makeup collector like me, you may put it straight in the “archives” and not actually *cough* use it….)

What? You don’t archive your makeup?

Okay, moving right along. Another reason holiday collections rule is because they usually involve items you might not normally buy (like the body powder I’m going to tell you about in a sec), fun seasonal colours or amazingly well-priced palettes. Then there is the stuff of pure fantasy… like outrageously cool false lashes that could only ever work on New Year’s Eve. So fun, right? Here’s the stuff I suggest you seek out, stat!

Guerlain Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face and Body

Guerlain Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face and Body 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

I know what you’re thinking right now. Shimmer powder? Come on, Michelle. But stay with me here. This stuff is not what you think—it’s subtle, with a pinky, only slightly shimmery glow. Smells great too… and we don’t even need to talk about how amazing the bottle would look on any counter top. Note: I still probably wouldn’t put it on my face though. $100; at Guerlain counters.

Wong Kar Wai for Shu Uemura Jeweled Love Partial Lashes

Wong Kar Wai for Shu Uemura Jeweled Love Accent Lashes 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Shu’s holiday offerings are always crazy gorgeous, and this year I’m particularly drawn to these falsies. Usually theirs are a bit too OTT for me, but these are ACCENT lashes, and I think I could totally do that. How great would these be for NYE? Plus, the price is right. $36; at Shu Uemura counters.

M.A.C Glitter and Ice Snowglobe Eye Shadows

M.A.C Glitter and Ice Snowglobe Eye Shadows 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

When I talked up the brush kit from this collection the other day, I forgot to mention that Johnny Weir is the face. Love. It. (Nice choice, M.A.C!) Anyway, I also fell in love with these shadow palettes. Not just because the silver snowglobe thing on the outside of the palette actually moves around (fun!), but also because the colours are soooo good. Especially the warm palette (on the far right). $45.50 each; at M.A.C counters.

Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss Pure Shine Intense Colour Long Wear Lip Gloss in Triomphal

Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss Pure Shine Intense Colour Long Wear Lip Gloss in Triomphal 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Where has this lip gloss been all my life? Honestly—and you’ll know what I mean if you have this or see it in the store—you know it’s gonna be a good one just from the feel of the packaging. (I’m SUCH a makeup nerd.) Inside is the most perfect holiday red you could ever imagine. And it’s long-lasting! $40; at Chanel counters.

NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette

NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

I haven’t seen this one in person yet, but my goodness—if you’re into your blush and your bronzer and your contouring and your highlighting, this is your dream. If you’re a wearer of the classic Orgasm blush (which is STILL being recommended by makeup artists I interview), this will pretty much pay for itself. $70; at Sephora.

Dior Deluxe Holiday Palette

Dior Deluxe Holiday Palette 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Speaking of great palettes… OMGOMGOMG. This one might just be the nicest I’ve ever seen. (Also? I love anything with bows.) Inside, there’s powder, lip balm, mascara, eyeshadows, eyeliner, lip gloss and lipstick. What more could a girl want? $90; at The Bay.

Bobbi Brown 20th Anniversary Lip Palette

Bobbi Brown 20th Anniversary Lip Palette 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Okay, can I talk about just one more palette? Bobbi fans know that hers are always a great investment, and this one is a dream come true if you’re a lip girl. You get her original 10 lipsticks from 1991, plus 10 more 2011 colours (read: the fun, brighter ones). Wear alone or mix ‘n match. $70; at Holt Renfrew, Murale and Sephora.

YSL Manicure Couture Duo Terriblement Noir

YSL Manicure Couture Duo Terriblement Noir 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Maybe black nail polish doesn’t exactly scream “Christmas.” But if you like your nails Gothic and vampy—and I know lots of y’all do—then you’ll probably heart these. One is matte and the other super-shiny. Because you know if YSL’s doing black, then it’s going to be AMAZing. $32 for the pair; at YSL counters.

Lancôme Golden Hat L’Absolu Rouge Lip Colour

Lancome Golden Hat LAbsolu Rouge Lip Colour 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

I almost overlooked these red lippies until a friend of mine (also a beauty ed) turned me on to them the other night. The day before, she’d run out of the house without a stitch of makeup on—save one of these—and got soooo many compliments. There are four reds to choose from (plus one clear), so choose the one that suits you best. I’m partial to Christmas Rose (the fuchsia-red) and Candy Cane (cherry red). $35 each; at Lancôme counters.

Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Sparkles Collection Mascaras

Givenchy PhenomenEyes Sparkles Collection 10 star products from the holiday 11 makeup collections—buy now before theyre gone forevah!

Sometimes you want to play with your eye makeup without the risk of looking like a freak. For those who can’t handle full-fledged bright eyeshadow colours (and I’m totally with you on this), these mascaras are the perfect alternative. Worn alone or on top of your regular black mascara (which is what I recommend), they add just a hint of sparkle in your choice of black, gold or plum. $33 each; at Sephora.

Ok. That Guerlain Vol de Nuit powder is SO GORGEOUS! I’ve let my whole family know I want this. Do you know Vol de Nuit was named after Antoine Saint Exupery’s (Petit Prince) novel ‘Night Flight’ ~ a story of love & romance of the 1st years of aviation. The bottle is even decorated with a propeller! Not to mention the delicate oriental scent. LOVE. And my younger daughter LOVES those MAC snowglobe compacts. How darling!

have you seen the limited edition laura mercier highlighter? it’s literally the most beautiful highlighter i have ever seen and worked with. no joke. and the flower design is to die for. the texture is sooooo smooth it almost feels like a cream/ mousse product, but it’s a powder highlighter. you should check it out though it’s incredibly difficult to find now.

I haven’t but thanks for the heads up! Is this the one you’re talking about? http://www.lauramercier.com/store/shop/Blush_Sheer-Cr%E8me-Glow_prod420004
Do you use it all over or just in certain places?

That top photo just kind of blew me away. Can I just BE her for the winter? Is she wearing the chanel red you mention? I gotta know… Also, I have to admit I’m tempted by the black nail polish. Of course I already have a black nail polish (chanel no less) but the promise of super extra glossiness is tempting…

No idea what lippie she’s wearing but I agree… I want to be her! I love this pic.
As for black nail polish… I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to wear it. Been having a real red moment lately so haven’t been in the mood yet!
