How-to: Olympic nail art

CND Shellac Olympic nail art

Let the Games begin! Today’s the big kick off for the London Olympics—and if you’re feeling in the spirit, why not treat your nails to some celebratory nail art?

That’s what nail company CND is doing for all the athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Villages. They get to have complimentary Shellac manis and pedis, which should last for the duration of the games AND help them reach the podium in style. How nice is that?!

Meanwhile, you don’t have to be an athlete—or even remotely athletic—to do the same thing, thanks to a couple of custom nail art designs that CND has graciously shared. You’ll need to have a Shellac service to achieve these, not to mention a skilled manicurist! Here’s what needs to be done…

Step 2: Apply a thin layer of Shellac Base Coat and cure for 10 seconds in the CND UV Lamp.

Step 3: Apply two thin layers of Shellac Cream Puff. Cure each layer for two minutes.

Step 4: Dip the tip of a dry oval brush into Additives Yellow and burnish it into the sticky Shellac on the side of the nail, creating the desired background design. Repeat with red and blue.

Step 5: Mix Additives with a small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol (to create a watercolor paste) on a mixing tray.

Step 6: Dip the end of a piece of ⅛” rubber tubing into the Additives Blue paste and stamp a circle onto the nail. Perfect the circle by dipping a detail brush into the Additive paste to fill in the lines as needed. Lock for 10 seconds.

Step 7: Clean the tubing with IPA, and repeat with the rest of the colors until you create the Olympic ring design. Cure for two minutes.

Step 8: Apply a thin layer of Shellac Top Coat and cure for two minutes.
