With all the Emmys action of the past few days we totally missed talking about Natalie Portman’s new honey blonde hair!
Here’s what’s happened. She went from her usual brunette (on the left below, that’s her in August) to the blonde on the right, which she debuted this week at the red carpet premiere of LA Dance Project:
It’s just for a role (no word on what that is yet), but the woman behind the hair is Tracey Cunningham—who is THE colourist to know in Los Angeles. She’s the one who made Emma Stone a redhead, for example. And her regular client list includes Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Bosworth and Jessica Biel.
So Natalie was in good hands is what I’m saying.
And yet… I’m still not a fan. It works with her skin tone, yes, but it doesn’t do anything FOR her. She doesn’t glow.
Do you prefer Natalie as a brunette?
Or do you think this blonde shade (it’s Redken Blonde Dimensions, BTW) is nice for a change?
Have you ever made this kind of radical hair change yourself?

I totally agree… The colour looks very nice but some people just look best in one particular colour, i.e. brunette for Natalie! Also I think the blonde is a bit outdated, it’s exactly what you would get from a salon in my area, nothing special. I think it would have looked better had it been a bit more ombred, like Sarah Jessica Parkers colour. As you said, she just doesn’t glow with the blonde. I wonder what she would look like with red hair?
Huge fan, hyper-hair-colour-aware Thomas xx
Red could be kinda cool actually – I would love to see that!
And yes, Ombre would have been way better. Good thinking! I imagine the character she’s playing isn’t that stylish
I’m with Thomas, I’d love to see her as a redhead. As for the blonde… meh. Whatever. Not bad, certainly not good. Ages her I think. But maybe that’s the point? For the role, I mean. Not nearly as sweet and cute as she is as a brunette.

She looks like Ann Romney with long hair.
Hilarious! I totally see it.
She looks pretty, but older and less stylish somehow…
Yes, definitely older and frumpier.
It looks good. Taking a dark brunette to such light blonde is difficult but it looks nice.
I’d actually like to see her with Leighton Meester hair — when she has red highlights and also when she went honey blondish.
Meh. They did the best they could, but they made a radiant brunette into an ordinary blonde. She’s still pretty, but now she looks like 90% of Hollywood. It’s flattened her.
The real question is, is the blonde hair remotely necesary for the character? Or could someone just not stretch their head around a brunette?
That brown colour is so rich and gorgeous! The blonde doesn’t hold a candle to it.
She looks so ordinary with blonde hair, and the nose contouring is too much, but my iPad is playing up, do it could be that!
