It’s true. I really, really do.
See, this is why you never say never in beauty. One minute you’re dissing the faux pas du jour (whether it’s a makeup look, hairstyle or even an actual person) and the next, you can’t get enough. Witness what happened to blue eyeshadow: once the most grave of beauty crimes and now it’s the must-have colour to be wearing on your eyelids in 2013. Also, Nicole Richie. Have I told you about how, during the heyday of The Simple Life, my friend and I were going to go to some Halloween party as Paris and Nicole? Except when push came to shove neither of us wanted to be the unfortunate-looking (at the time) Nicole? Yes, I WILLINGLY styled myself as Paris Hilton and THOUGHT I WAS COOL.
This is a big deal if you remember me going on about how she always wears the same, slightly overdone makeup and hair. She was in a long-term beauty rut, if you will.
I’m not kidding, I want my hair to be this colour and I want to have bangs and soft, very slight waves and red lipstick and black lashes.
Okay, now I know y’all are like WAIT WUT? HER MAKEUP IS NOT EVEN DIFFERENT! And I suppose you’re right. But you see, I think the hair makes all the difference.
It’s not so much about the colour, although you may have noticed that over the years, she’s gone progressively darker to land up at this ever-so-slightly strawberry-ish shade (which still doesn’t scream out “RED HAIR”… like my hair is still doing ever since “The Incident”). From what I can tell, it’s her natural colour, and it’s so much more flattering than being blonderexic.
But really, my new crush on her is more about her hair’s style and texture. Now before you call me an anti-curlite, let me just say that the curls were cute and all… but she just never switched them up! It would be one thing if she did high ponytails or half-up/half-down or a Gwen Stefani-style ‘fro… but all we used to see was either long and loose or in a low bun. That was it.
So to say that I’m excited over this new texture—which is the kind of voluminous straight hair that only curly-haired people can achieve—is an understatement. I mean, I know for a fact that my bangs would never, ever look that thick.
Wanna see a close-up of her makeup?
It’s good, right? That’s a helluva matte red lip right there. And the eye makeup looks more natural than I thought it would. Just a shiz-tonne of mascara and some liner, I reckon. And what’s making the whole thing perfect is that glowy highlight on the cheek. Oh, sure, it could be just the camera flash but let’s pretend it’s a creamy shimmery highlighting cream on top of her blush, ‘kay? If we’re going to make up a story then let’s at least make it a good one.
So yeah… the whole thing is rocking my world right now and you can bet I’m wearing red on my lips today (and bringing these pics to show Tony when I next go to see him).
Now let’s talk about a couple of other peeps who were also lookin’ good. Hayden Panettiere is one of them, and you know I rarely praise her.
So admittedly, the false eyelashes are not so good. Individual ones at the outer edges would’ve been far more natural looking than these fringey things.
But whatevs, I can live with it because the rest of this look is pretty spot-on. Love me a side bun (I am, in fact, sporting one myself right this very minute), and I also love me some glowy skin and pinky blush and nudey lips. It’s good, right?
The other celeb that I think deserves our praise is Lucy Hale:
She’s really got her poses down pat now, have you noticed? This is the absolute best angle to show off the back of that dress and the contrast of her dark hair and red lips against the white. If I wanted to be nit-picky I would say that her curls need some more separating (because brushed-out ones are obviously where it’s at, HELLO) and that there is a very slight Eagle situation happening with her face (light) versus her body (dark).
But like I said, that would be nit-picking and why do that when there are people like Carrie Underwood in this world?
Oh Jesus, take the wheel.
I only say this because I want to help you, Carrie: please STOP. You are aging yourself by 100 years with this schtick. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: when your dress is this over-the-top sparkly, then you don’t need to pull out 1,000 stops with your hair and makeup as well. Think high-low. Dressy dress, casual face and hair. It’s prettier, it’s sexier… it’s just the way it’s done.
Other points I can’t help but make: her hair does not need to be this blonde and her curls most definitely need separating. She also needs to get over the slimy, porno lip gloss, and whatever the heck is on her eyes that are making them disappear into her head.

Are you head over heels for Taylor as well, or is it just me?
What did you think of Hayden? Of Lucy?
Do you, too, want to run after Carrie with some face wipes?
