How-to: Salma Hayek’s bright lips and shimmering eyes at the Golden Globes

Salma Hayek - Golden Globe Awards 2013 makeup

The look:

Bright coral lips with luminescent eyes.

The inspiration:

“Salma is such a knockout! Her dress was midnight blue—very sophisticated and over-the-top glamour, so we wanted to play off the dress, but keep things hip and modern with fresh makeup. The eyes are very luminescent—we lightened them up with coppers and silvery peach, then gave them depth with eggplant and plum. With a bright lip, the look was trendy, young, and modern.”—makeup artist Jeannia Robinette for NARS.

i love salma, but thought this makeup and hair was such a miss. the purple eyeshadow brings our her brown eyes, bu when paired with that lip, it’s not a good look. the hair looked very unkempt, too. i’m sure she’ll knock it our of the park next time!

I agree with you Erin! She looks terrible. Just beacuse a look is smartly done, doesn’t mean it actually looks good! And why the hell didn’t someone do her hair?

It’s classic colour theory, opposite colours make it pop. It’s a great look, really intelligent in the way that they have made her eyes pop with minimal fuss as it isn’t a smokey look, (it could actually be a day time eye) and the emphasise is still on the lips. Very, very smart.

I thinks she looks very lovely here. I really like the eye makeup, which looks fresh and youthful. The smokey eye look is so overdone. I even like the hair, the fact that it can get that messy (from wind?) means that it hasn’t been styled and sprayed to death.
