The look:

Hand-painted graffiti squiggles that trail down one side of each nail from tip to base, in shades of teal, brown, red and blue.

The inspiration:

The Memphis-Milano 1980s art movement. These nails are for a unique, cool girl communicating her new-found sophistication while staying true to her artistic soul, says CND co-founder Jan Arnold.

The how-to:

1. Apply a base coat. If using Shellac, apply a thin layer of Shellac Base Coat and cure for 10 seconds.

2. Apply two coats of nude polish. If using Shellac, apply one thin layer of Shellac Cocoa to the entire nail and then cure for two minutes.

3. Apply a thin stripe of red, grey or white nail polish to one third of the nail. If using Shellac, apply a thin layer of Shellac Asphalt and cure for two minutes; then, apply Shellac Top Coat and cure for another two minutes.

4. Using a detail brush or Ultra Fine Point Sharpie markers in a few of your favourite colours, draw squiggly lines up one half of the nail, letting each line dry between applications. (Sharpies may be used over Shellac polish.) Don't worry about making them too precise—it's all about the imperfect graffiti look.
