Jessica Alba, People's Choice Awards, 2014

How did you feel about Jessica Alba's look at the People's Choice Awards last night? As I mentioned in the big hair and makeup round-up, I, for one, am a fan. I think it's simple, pretty and just a little trendy. The things that are working for me include:

  • The contrast of the pale pink lip against her warm colouring
  • The lipstick's matte texture
  • Her full eyebrows (complete with "fans" at the inner corners)
  • The dewy, not too matte nor shiny texture of her skin
  • Her hair blown-out straight and tucked behind her ears with a centre part

I'm even into the eyeshadow—but I do understand how a case could be made against it. Are the angles on the outer edges a bit too much? Maybe. But I think it gives her look some edge, while still in a soft way. Perhaps she could have lost the false eyelashes?

If you're loving it, here's how to get her exact look.

Makeup artist Monika Blunder started with Lancôme Teint Visionnaire to perfect Jessica's complexion. A lot of celebs are wearing this foundation lately and from what I've seen so far, it's a great product. The lid contains a pot of concealer for spot touch-ups; very handy.

The Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette was used to contour. It contains a highlighter, bronzer and blush so basically everything you need. This kind of subtle, glowy contouring I can totally get behind. Someone buy it for Naya Rivera please?

Next, for a little more colour, Monika dusted Lancôme Blush Subtil in Ménage à Trois across her cheeks. This is another palette I'm seeing quite often on the red carpet; like the Urban Decay one, it contains highlighter, bronzer and blush shades.

Okay, now we move on to the eyes. The palette responsible for Jessica's high-drama shadow look is Lancôme Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Taupe Craze.

Jessica is wearing liner only on the upper lash line, and (surprise!) it's the same liquid liner making the celeb rounds lately: Lancôme Artliner 24H Bold Color Precision Eyeliner. While we saw it on Jennifer Hudson in Sapphire, Jessica is wearing Black Diamonds.

Lashes were coated with Lancôme Definicils Mascara in Black.

And to finish, that gorge light pink lip is courtesy of Lancôme Rouge in Love in Fall in Rose, another line we're seeing a lot lately. (Remember how pretty it was on Christina Henricks in Midnight Rose?)

Now, moving on to hair...

Stylist Robert Ramos was the one behind the hair look. After applying a hair oil and leave-in spray while it was still damp, he parted it down the middle and blew it dry straight, directing the hair away from the face.

Next, he divided her hair into sections and flat-ironed her hair with the T3 SinglePass Straightening & Styling Iron:

Then, Robert tucked Jessica's hair behind her ears and applied a texture cream to add sleekness. The final step was a bit of teasing at the crown using a fine-toothed comb, and then a larger brush to smooth out the pieces on top.
