Kerry Washington could not have looked better at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. This is my favourite beauty look for her so far—those pregnancy hormones must be making her extra-gorgeous these days.
Makeup artist Carola Gonzalez decided to put the focus on the eyes. “We wanted to do something different, so we decided to go with a bold, dramatic eye. We wanted to be more daring, and due to the elegant simplicity of the dress, this was the perfect time to do this.”
I’ve got not one but two close-ups for you. This is the red carpet one:
And this is from a Golden Globes after-party:
Look at that skin! No wonder she’s a face of Neutrogena. I have tips from Carola on how to get her exact look—the only thing missing is what foundation she’s wearing. (I’m assuming it’s not from the brand—oh well).
She started by prepping Kerry’s Skin with Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer.
Then she mixed Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer…
…with Neutrogena Shine Control Primer, and applied to skin before the makeup. “This makes the makeup last longer and controls shine,” says Carola. I never thought of mixing two primers, but it’s a great idea!
“I contoured Kerry’s cheekbones using Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Bronzer, but I didn’t apply any coloured blush because I wanted to direct the attention to the eyes,” says Carola.
For the eyes, she applied Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Forever Platinum to the inner corners of Kerry’s eyes and along her brow bones.
Then she used Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Lasting Taupe all over the eyelids, and blended both eyeshadows with a blending brush to create a seamless transition of colour. For added depth and definition, Carola added some of her own darker eyeshadow shades, too.
In the crease, she applied Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Constant Copper, dragging it all the way to the outer edge of the eye.
Then, to add even more drama, she used her own darker eyeshadow again and applied it to the outer edges of the eyes to elongate them. She also took the colour under the lower lash lines. “This connects the top with the bottom of the eye,” says Carola.
Next, she lined the top lash line and lower waterline with Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner in Cosmic Black.
“Then I applied four coats of Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black,” says Carola. Four! But there’s gotta be some false lashes there too…
On her lips, Kerry is wearing Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Warm Caramel.
Here’s the final look, which held up extremely well at the after-party. I love her super-long hair as well!
