Am I the only person who loved Olivia Wilde's emerald green sequinned Gucci dress? (I heart when ladies show off their pregnant bellies... and I'd rather have slinky and form-fitting over poufy, ruffly gowns any day.)
If not, then I hope we're at least in agreement on the makeup. I can't think of a cooler colour choice than the purple smoky eyes to go with the green. Olivia and her makeup artist, Melanie Inglessis, remain my favourite makeup duo of the moment. Every look they do together is so creative, yet still fresh, pretty and wearable.
For this event, "we wanted a look that would complement the dress and be sexy and cool," says Melanie. Here's the close-up of the rock 'n' roll-inspired makeup:
"We kept her skin dewy and fresh with sheer coverage," says Melanie. Absolutely essential when you're doing a dramatic eye like this; if the skin is full-coverage then I think the whole thing starts to look too heavy.
She started by priming with Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer:
To create the sheer skin coverage, she mixed an illuminator, Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Light...
...with a foundation, Revlon PhotoReady Makeup in Nude. This sheers it out so it's more like a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturizer with illuminating properties.
To add colour to the cheeks, Melanie used Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Pinched:
As well as Revlon Powder Blush in Bronzilla. (Makeup artists tend to layer creams and powders a lot—it gives the blush more staying power.)
She also brushed another shade of the illuminator, Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in Peach Light, on top of the cheekbones as a highlight.
To frame her face, Olivia's brows were filled in with Revlon Brow Fantasy in Dark Blonde. I love that Melanie didn't make them too dark, so they don't distract from the eyes.
"Olivia is just gorgeous and pulls off a smoky eye like no one else, so we created a purple smoky eye that was not too overdone or polished," says Melanie. It started with purple winged liner across the lids; she used the dark purple shadow shade from the Revlon PhotoReady Primer, Shadow + Sparkle palette in Muse, but applied it wet as a liner.
Next, she mixed the lighter purple shade from the palette and swept it across the lids, with the darker purple in the outer corners. She also lined the eyes all the way around with Revlon PhotoReady Kajal Intense Eye Liner + Brightener in Carbon Cleopatra.
To make Olivia's eyes pop, Melanie applied Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious Volume + Length Mascara in Blackest Black to both top and bottom lashes.
With such a strong eye, the lip just had to be nude. "I finished off [the look] with a natural lip that had a glossy finish," says Melanie. "It really looked effortless and captured her style.” She used a combination of two products. First, a lipstick, which is Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Private Viewing:
Then she finished it off with Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Super Natural.
Olivia wore her nails very natural—a good plan with so much colour going on with the dress and eye makeup. She chose Revlon Nail Enamel in Sheer Petal:
