Rashida Jones, Golden Globes Awards, 2014

Besides Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde, Rashida Jones was another one of my favourites at this week's Golden Globes. She absolutely nailed the concept of effortless chic, sporting her hair in a top knot and bangs (that looked like she could have thrown it up herself) and sheer, pretty makeup with a standout burgundy lip.

“Rashida had the wonderful idea to do a clean but subtly golden eye look, with black cat eyeliner, flushed cheeks and strong, wine-coloured lips to go with the gorgeous gown chosen by her stylist, Brad Goreski," says her makeup artist, Kathy Jeung. "Sophisticated and elegant yet youthful.”

Kathy started by misting her bare skin with John Masters Organics Rose & Aloe Hydrating Toning Mist:

She lightly massaged in a few drops of L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil to hydrate, smooth and add radiance.

For the eye area, she tapped on Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream with her ring finger.

To hydrate the lips and prepare them for lipstick, Kathy applied Cargo HD Picture Perfect Lip Primer:

On Rashida's face, Kathy used a disposable triangular sponge to apply Cargo HD Activating Face Primer all over.

For sheer coverage, she applied Cargo HD Picture Perfect CC Cream in Medium/Dark with a flat foundation brush to Rashida's face and neck.

Then she blended it out with a water-moistened Beautyblender sponge.

To set the makeup, she lightly dusted Cargo HD Picture Perfect Translucent Powder all over face and eye area.

Next, Kathy dusted Cargo Bronzer in Medium over Rashida's temples and outer cheeks to add a golden glow, and swept it under her chin to define the jaw line.

While Rashida was smiling, she applied Cargo Water Resistant Blush in Ibiza to the apples of her cheeks, using a fluffy round dome brush.

Then, Cargo ColorStick in Maui, a cream blush, for extra staying power.

To fill in and shape the brows, Kathy used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, applied with a clean spool brush to ensure an even distribution of colour.

She set them in place with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel in Clear.

To define Rashida's eyes, she applied Cargo Essential Eyeshadow Palette in Dark Neutral.

Then she drew a cat eye with Cargo TexasLiner Liquid Eyeliner, starting it 3/4 in from the outside of the eye and then tilting the wing slightly on the end.

Upper and lower lashes got two coats of Cargo Better Than Waterproof Mascara in Black.

For lasting colour, Kathy first lined Rashida's lips with L'Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lip Liner in Red/Wine.

The finishing touch was Cargo Essential Lipstick in Bordeaux.

Here's how it came together:

Rashida Jones, Golden Globes Awards, 2014 (3)

“Rashida is one of the most laid-back, cool and easy-going women I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. And I think it’s apparent in her Golden Globes look," says celebrity stylist John Ruggiero, who did her hair.

He prepped her hair with Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray before he blew it out with some body.

Next, he used a 1 1/2-inch curling iron and waved her hair to give it texture. After back-combing it a bit, he pulled the hair into a high ponytail and sprayed it with Bumble and Bumble Does it All Styling Spray.

"I then took a slightly lighter colour extension and wrapped it around the ponytail, pinned it, back-combed it for texture, and then smoothed it with my hands and made a loose robe braid," says John. "I took the robe braid and made a messy bun and pinned it. After I pinned it, I pulled the braid apart to give an undone look."

"Once made sure [the top knot] was even and the appropriate shape and proportion, I sprayed it with Bumble and Bumble Classic Hairspray for hold."

After Rashida's makeup was finished, he lightly sprayed her bangs and blew them out with his hands to finish the look.
