I wasn’t blown away by Amy’s makeup in the original Oscars thread, but after seeing these new and improved pics, I’ve totally changed my mind. The shimmering, bronzey eyes are super-pretty, making her blue eyes pop and picking up on the exact colour of her hair. And the blue and orange earrings tie everything together perfectly.
“She wore a stunning sapphire-blue Gucci gown, modern and clean,” says her makeup artist, Stephen Sollitto. “Obviously, I am inspired by this colour and simply wanted the makeup to be just as sophisticated.”
I think you need to see the close-up to truly appreciate his work:
Here’s what Stephen used….
To start, he prepped Amy’s skin with RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream—a favourite moisturizer of his and the same one he used on Amy for the Golden Globes. “I always moisturize with this product,” says Stephen. “This is the line I use on myself every day. Prepping the skin is just as important as the makeup you use.”
Next, he applied Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation, a new oil-free matte foundation… that unfortunately won’t be out until the fall. (Makeup artist Mai Quynh also used it on Reese Witherspoon at the Golden Globes.) “This foundation is simple to apply with a wet sponge or your fingers,” says Stephen. “It’s long wear, oil-free and lightweight. In the end it gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder—it’s built-in.”
Amy’s blush is Tom Ford Beauty Cheek Color in Ravish, a “spring-like blush” that creates cheeks that are “flush with colour.”
Under her bottom lashes, he added Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Black Karat (black gold with black pearl).
To keep her eyes looking bright at the inner corners, Stephen applied his “ideal champagne shade,” Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sugar Frost. (Described as a tan beige shimmer, he also used it at the Golden Globes.)
To make her eyes pop, he applied NARS Eye Paint in Tatar (black with purple shimmer) along the upper lash line.
To finish, Amy’s lashes got a few coats of Dior Diorshow Black Out Mascara.
For the lips, Stephen wanted a look that was “pretty, a little bit rosy and glossy.” He used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Cozy—crème rosy red and “the perfect punch I was looking for.”
Over top, he layered Tom Ford Beauty Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Rose Crush “for a bit of glamour to match the day.”
Here’s the final look:
I think this colour palette is a great choice for any redheads out there—it makes an impact without being harsh or overwhelming your delicate colouring.
