I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a bright pink, coral or cherry-red kind of lipstick girl—not just in the summer but all year-round.
However… looking at these pictures of Olivia Munn at the recent Deliver Us from Evil screening in NYC, I will concede that a darker red looks REALLY cool.
Everyone does brights for summer. A deep berry set against beachy waves and luminous skin is so unexpected—agree?
I think it works because the rest of the look is so very sheer and laid-back. “I wanted to make sure Olivia’s beautiful skin was the focal point of the look,” says celebrity makeup artist Amy Oresman. “I find that beautiful makeup begins and ends with your skin prep.”
Amen to that. Here’s the close-up:
And here’s what she used on Olivia:
To start, Amy got a glow going with vbeauté Rub Off Gentle Facial Exfoliator.
Then, she created a custom brightening tinted moisturizer by mixing together THREE products. First, vbeauté Lite Up Intense Brightening Agent:
I love the idea of mixing together a little bit of this and a little bit of that… it’s also a great way to sheer out a favourite fuller-coverage foundation for the warm weather months.
Blush is a must if you’re wearing a dark lip for summer, to keep skin looking healthy and fresh instead of too pale and vampy. Amy used Dior DiorBlush Vibrant Colour Powder in New Red:
These new Dior blushes are awesome—the colours are not nearly as pigmented on the skin as they look in the compact, making them super-easy to work with (if you like powder blush).
For soft definition, Amy rimmed the eyes with Dior DiorShow Fusion Mono Long-Wear Professional Mirror-Shine Eyeshadow in Hypnotique, a shimmery purple:
No word on the mascara, but Amy has mentioned in the past that her fave is Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara:
Brows were defined with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Caramel. This is the second lightest shade, suggested for light brown and strawberry blonde hair—but it still works on Olivia’s darker colouring, keeping her arches nice and soft.
Before applying the colour, Amy moisturized Olivia’s lips with vbeauté Lip Spread:
Now, for the best part—the lipstick! Amy mixed products here again, using two Tom Ford colours. (I assume blended on the back of her hand and applied with a lip brush for precision.) First, Tom Ford Lip Color in Bruised Plum:
Here’s the final gorgeousness:
So good, right? I especially love this with her hair in those easy, soft waves, and paired with the strapless dress in a light bone colour. Let me know what you think!
