I feel like I've been enabling a ton of lip purchases lately, but if you'll allow me one more—I'd like to give a shout-out to the new Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Gloss in Coquette

Here it is on the lips:

Now, I know a light pink lip gloss may not look like anything special, but consider this the white T-shirt of your makeup wardrobe. (The good white T-shirt... like, say, a Petit Bateau versus Old Navy.)

Just like a white tee, we all need a goes-with-everything neutral lip gloss; one that can always be relied on to look and feel great.

Here are the ingredients (if you care):

I should mention the range has 15 other colours to choose from besides this one, Coquette (a bubblegum pink). I'm confident they all will be great—Coquette is just nice as the ultimate soft pink.

(Isn't it funny how we've all gone crazy buying tons of brights, and now we have the opposite problem to what we started with—we don't have enough neutrals? Or at least I feel that way.)

The formula itself is amazing on several levels.

First of all, it has a second-gen, non-sticky texture. It's also very soft and thin, so you don't get that heavy, goopy effect when you apply it, which is a huge pet peeve of mine on the red carpet. Nor do you get any sparkles. Hooray!

But best of all, it's much more opaque than most glosses, so you actually can see the colour! (I've found most glosses are so sheer, there is literally no point to picking a particular shade... that includes the new NARS Larger Than Life range, and Lancôme's Lip Lover.) I would describe Be Legendary as semi-opaque coverage, and the shine is just moderate instead of a vinyl effect.

In short, I can only say great things about this stuff. Also check out the Be Legendary Lipsticks—they are one of my absolute favourite lipsticks!
