The Fierce New Way to Do Smoky Eyes, As Seen on Rachel McAdams The star wore feline eyes with bright white nails at this rare red carpet sighting

It’s so rare that we get to see Rachel McAdams on a red carpet! And whenever we do, I feel like we MUST talk about it.

At Tuesday’s premiere of A Most Wanted Man in New York City—that’s Rachel’s new espionage-thriller film—the Canadian actress arrived in a colourful mini-dress with dramatic eye makeup and a glossy white mani.

(I know you want to know what those nails are, and they’re Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in 613 Eastern Light with Orly Sec’n Dry top coat.)

But you definitely need to see the full head-to-toe to appreciate this look:

Her flirty dress is by Zuhair Murad and the to-die-for shoes are Casadei.

Of course, it’s more the hair and makeup matters that concern us here, and I thought they paired with the outfit perfectly.

Mark Townsend is usually Rachel’s go-to stylist, and he pulled her hair back into a simple, twisted bun with a bit of height at the top.

The real standout, however, is the eye makeup:

See, she’s wearing smoky eyes—but instead of going up, as was the trend for the last decade or so, they go out. Makeup artist Kayleen McAdams (who is Rachel’s sister) carefully blended the shadow horizontally to extend past the outer edges of the eyes, as well as underneath them.

Here’s a slightly closer look:

Really pretty, right? There’s a mid-tone in the crease and then a dark charcoal at the outer corners, plus liner all the way around in the waterlines. The Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in Litho would be perfect for this, since it contains both a matte rich black and a mid-tone brown.

I also highly recommend Make Up For Ever’s Smudger Brush to help work the product from the waterlines outward, so that the blending between shadow and liner is seamless. You may need the help of a Q-tip dipped in Bioderma, or a makeup wipe, to get the precision angle at the corners. A little fiddling there is SO worth it, as it totally makes the look.

Tons of mascara, the lightest touch of blush and a sheer red lip gloss finish things off nicely. Let me know what you think!

It’s so nice to see she hasn’t botoxed the shizz out of her face.

Do you know what lip gloss she used or where to find a lip gloss/lipstick in that colour?

I really like this as an option for eyes that are hooded/ semi-hooded. I barely have any visible lid space so smokey eyes don’t look the same on me as they do on celebrities. I can’t wait to try this version!
