Lucy Hale nailed a sexy yet understated makeup look at Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards, and I've got some more details on exactly how to recreate it.

"I knew Lucy’s eyes were going to be the main focus," her makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan, told InStyle. "We chatted about it beforehand and planned to really doll up her eyes since her hair was going to be pulled off her face. We wanted to keep the eyes in earth tones to avoid any colours competing with the dress."

And what a dress it was. Red satin, Dior and super-short:

Makes total sense to keep the makeup neutral, yes? Also get a load of that cute braid!

And here's exactly what Kelsey did to get the look...

The Skin

First, she prepped the skin with Lancer The Method Nourish Moisturizer.

Next came the all-time makeup artist favourite foundation, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation:

Kelsey skipped blush—too much with such a standout bright dress—and instead softly contoured the cheeks with Mark Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Amped Up.

The Eyes

First, Kelsey primed the lids with Mark Please Hold Eye Primer.

Then, she applied Mark All Time Eye Hook Up Longwear Shadow in Tender Love over the top. "This champagne colour creme shadow acts as a base to layer shadows on," says Kelsey.

The next step was the Mark On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact, with the reddish-brown shade being the key colour. "I wiped the colour all over the lid, and extended it outward to elongate Lucy’s eyes," says Kelsey. "On the top lash line, I added a slight wing to the outer corner [using bronze liquid liner] to continue with the elongated smoky shape."

Next came Mark No Place to Run Waterproof Eyeliner in Jet Set in the upper and lower waterlines.

And finally, Mark Lash Act Build and Define Mascara in Blackest Black. "A couple generous coats of mascara on the top and bottom lashes really completed the look and made her eyes pop," says Kelsey.

The Lips

The final touch was Mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Bare Hug for an understated—not matchy-matchy—complement to Lucy's red dress.
