L’Oréal Paris has just announced that Naomi Watts is joining its family of spokespeople, and I could not be more excited. In her many red carpet appearances, the 46-year-old actress always appears ultra-comfortable in her skin—and she never looks overdone (or over-injected!).
In fact, it's Naomi's knowledge of what works with her fine features and hair type that I most admire. You'll notice that she never strays from her signature hair (mid-length and light blonde), nor does she go for extreme makeup looks (she usually sticks with a berry or red lip). And yet, she still manages to have LOTS of fun with her beauty.
Wanna see what I mean? Let's examine her 10 best looks.
1. Soft Waves, Flushed Cheeks and Stained Lips
Soft, loose, touchable waves with flushed cheeks and stained lips is a classic beauty formula that's also utterly romantic. Naomi (who was an incredible-looking 41 here) let her cheeks and lips stand out, keeping eyes to just mascara and champagne shadow, with strong brows. If she was doing this look today, I'd probably want her to brush out those waves.
2. Centre-Parted Curls and Bold Red Lips
How adorable is this look? Most wouldn't be able to pull off a long bob with tight, ringlet-style curls—but it looks fantastic with Naomi's delicate features. The strong hair statement called for an equally bold red lip, and the long dark lashes balance everything out. She looks like a little doll.
3. Straight Hair with Blunt Ends and Grey Smoky Eyes
Here's the photo that inspired my rant about layers. As you know, there's been a huge movement in the last few years towards layer-less haircuts with blunt ends, and Naomi's was one of the first in Hollywood. I'm a huge, HUGE fan of this hairstyle for fine, straight hair textures. And it looks just perfect with the low-key makeup and soft grey smoky eyes.
4. Deep Side Part and Dark Berry Lips
This is one of my favourites for sure. Parting her hair way over to one side totally changes up her look, for a dramatic movie-star vibe. Then it's all about the berry lip—which is a little darker than Naomi's usual, and makes for a nod to the vampy lips trend, without overwhelming her fair colouring. She was 43 here... crazy!
5. Straight Hair and Soft Smoky Eyes
Yet another variation of Naomi's beauty formula is this centre-parted, stick-straight hair with softly smudgy eyes. Notice how pale her skin is, and that she's not trying to be otherwise—the blush is super-subtle, and the lips have just a hint of colour. I especially love the slightly chunky, runway-esque lashes.
6. Retro Faux Bob and Peach Lips
Another one of my favourites! Naomi wears these retro hairstyles like nobody else. Here, her hair's been curled into vintagey waves, and then tucked into a faux bob that is SO adorable. She went for a bolder blush here, with matching peachy lips, and jet-black mascara on the lashes.
7. Hollywood Waves, Matte Skin and Cherry Lips
Can you believe Naomi is 45 here?! This time, her skin finish is quite a bit more matte than we've been seeing, with a matching non-shiny cherry lipstick. But it's her hair that's the real star—big, fluffy and soft, in the ultimate retro waves. She could easily time-travel back to the Old Hollywood era, and totally fit in.
8. Soft Waves, Long Lashes and Stained Lips
Here's an easy daytime look for Naomi that showcases her delicate beauty. The hair's been gently curled and tucked behind the ears, all the better to show off her fresh skin, strong brows and defined lashes. I just love these stained lips on her, too.
9. Retro Waves and Red Lipstick
This is a daytime variation on the old Hollywood looks Naomi is such a pro at. The side-swoopy hair is very Marilyn Monroe, but the makeup is more low-key—natural skin, bold brows and a sheer but punchy red lip.
10. Soft Updo and Bright Red Lips
Last up is a look from earlier this year, and she's going a little outside her comfort zone with an ultra-bright red lipstick. Still, it works really well with her colouring, and with the loose, easy updo. Nice way to switch it up, Naomi!
