Every so often on celebrity beauty watch, I come across a set of red carpet pics where the hair and makeup look is so flawless, I wouldn't change a single (even minor) thing. It's rare, but it happens, and it's such a joy when it does.
Like here, for instance. I present you Elizabeth Olsen at the premiere of her new movie, 'Avengers: Age of Ultron':
It's everything I want in a beauty look and more. Aren't you nodding your head in approval?
I mean, first of all the hair. The HAIR. It's that of-the-moment wavy bob (or "wob", if you like your beauty slang) that strikes just the right balance between well-groomed and not trying too hard. Or should we be calling it a "wlob", since it's more of a long bob than a regular bob?
Whatever. It almost makes me want to cut my hair off, and I never say that. I think the deep side part with the swoosh of '80s volume is key, as well as the tucking behind one ear and the loose tonging with a curling iron throughout. Celeb hairstylist Mark Townsend was the main behind it, and you just know he used tons of his go-to (and mine!) Dove Dry Shampoo. I got the chance to interview Mark recently when he was in Toronto, so have a read of his best hair tips over here.
You know what's crazy? The colour is by the same person who did Kim Kardashian's short-lived (and unfortunately greenish) platinum blonde. Lorri Goddard, you've officially redeemed yourself.
Here's the equally low-key head-to-toe:
It's a T-shirt gown! Never knew those existed before. But I think it feels right for Elizabeth.
Now we get to the makeup... by guess who?
If you thought Kate Lee, well, you're right! It's downright uncanny how my Instagram beauty-sleuthing turns up her name whenever I'm impressed by a makeup job. Between her and Mark Townsend, talk about a beauty dream team!
What stands out for me here is the skin, which is no doubt already in tip-top condition, but looks ultra-perfected here, with no traces of foundation, powder or even shine. Brows are full but natural and lashes defined, leaving the makeup statement to the black liner and berry lipstick. Notice how the liner is on top only, and just follows the curve of her eyes instead of flicking. The restraint is admirable, isn't it?
There's no word on the specific products Kate used, but I'm thinking the lipstick could be the new and improved Chanel Rouge Coco in Etienne or Jeanne. The liner could be Chanel's also, but I'll give a shoutout here to a quick-drying and non-smudging one I've been testing lately from Geisha Ink. Canadians, you must check it out!
Another detail to note is that Elizabeth is not wearing any nail polish on fingers or toes...
In the past, that might've raised an eyebrow with me. But after seeing so many overdone celeb beauty jobs lately (*ahem*) and, well, Kardashian fatigue in general, I find it sort of refreshing. Whatcha think?
