Your weekly beauty inspiration.

By "this week" in celebrity hair and makeup, I really mean last week! Slight delay on this post, because I've been busy the last few days doing this. But moving on... our latest beauty batch is a sea of blondes and redheads, with a sprinkling of brunettes. (Hopefully, a bit more diversity next time.) Who won my heart? Barbara Palvin and her low-key red lips, plus a glowy Gigi Hadid and flawless Emilia Clarke.

These were the best celebrity beauty looks this week:

Barbara Palvin

Folks, it doesn't get much better than this! Barbara is the picture of health and effortless prettiness. The one dressy element is the carefully applied, semi-matte red lipstick, which gives good contrast against her ultra-fresh (21-year-old) skin, plus hair with that air-dried texture everyone's doing lately. Even though she's obviously got genetic advantages, I think it just goes to show you that great skin needs little adornment. If you're lucky enough to be blessed with a similar complexion, I love the idea of doing a classic red lipstick with everything else bare and natural.

Gigi Hadid

Meanwhile, Gigi went the opposite direction, vamping it up in strong eyes, tons of mascara and a little contour play. (Girl wears a smoky eye like no other, huh?) I think she carries the heavy makeup because her hair is completely out of the way, and her brows are full and natural—tweezed and angular would be all wrong. Normally, I loathe contouring, but it's done well here; that and the highlighting are definitely making her cheeks pop, and her nose seem more button-like. I also love the thick fringe of black mascara and touches of gold at the inner corners.

Second Gigi look, and this one takes the highlighting and contouring even further. Instead of smokiness, her lids are a gleaming rose gold, all the way up to her full brows. Mascara and liner in the waterlines give definition to keep the eyes popping. I'd just prefer a lighter hand on the cheeks, and I'm not crazy about her gelled roots.

Amber Heard

Amber was another makeup-wearer who erred on the heavier side, but looks so summery and glam overall. My favourite part is her hair, which is like a beachy, touchable take on Veronica Lake waves. In the makeup, the standout is the purplish-brown, shimmery shadow taken all the way around—so good with her blue-green eyes and the purple dress. It's more matchy with her lips than her peach cheeks, and I enjoy that contrast, but feel like the blush is too heavy. And the lip liner could be better blended.

Emilia Clarke

Emilia cut her hair! I'm getting vintage Liz Hurley vibes from this shoulder-length, straight lob and it's wonderful. Also: that bright red lipstick could only be described as juicy. It looks great all glossy against her matte (but not dry) skin, with full brows and rosy, flushed cheeks. A delicate flick of black liquid liner is the finishing touch.

Bella Thorne

It's hard to believe Bella is only 17, until you look at her skin... and then you understand. Damn teenagers! With such a gorgeous canvas, all she needs is some black liner that accentuates an almond shape, and a slick of clear gloss. (Notice how the liner isn't just on the top; it's all the way around.) I daresay she's had her upper lip plumped, however. And the brow pencil on the tails doesn't match.

Sara Sampaio

Another red lipstick, another model. Here's how Sara interprets a juicy red: with bare skin, looong lashes and perfectly tousled hair. Just like Barbara at the top, the effect is super-effortless. I think a bit more skin refinement (mattifying and evening out) would take it to the next level.

Jessica Chastain

I really appreciate Jessica's willingness to take risks, even if it's not quite a home run for me this time. Purple-berry lips, greyish-purplish eyeshadow and a strong centre part are a tough beauty combo to pull off! I think she mostly pulls off this strong look; I'd just soften the lips (they seem dry) and lighten up the eyes. While the brows are improving, they still kind of fight with the eye makeup, and kind of masculinize her.

Amanda Seyfried

While Jess Chastain takes makeup risks, Amanda tends to experiment more with her hair, and here, it's tight, partially braided cornrows. What you can't see are the ends—they're tied up in a ponytail about six inches from the bottom. Weirdly, I don't hate it! It kinda suits the dress, which is all-black with edgy details. She kept to her usual soft makeup emphasizing her eyes.

Mila Kunis

Glam, glam, glam! Mila is back after baby, and will you look at the shininess of her hair? (Rumour has it, she's pregnant again, so that would explain it.) This also might be the most perfect sideswept style in the history of sideswept-ness. The red lips and bronze lids are well in balance, complemented by a full fringe of lashes.

Suki Waterhouse

Models are really embracing this non-hair thing, see? Suki's example is all thick, honey-toned layers—and I notice she dyed her brows to match. (I prefer them darker.) The makeup feels modern '60s: a thick sweep of black liner on the top lids, doll-like lower lashes and a matte baby pink on the lips. I think a bit more foundation would solve the slight skin blotchiness.

Maia Mitchell

Change the part to suit your face shape, and Maia's look would suit anyone, anywhere. The textured wavy lob is just so versatile, and so is this pretty makeup. Everyone looks good with flushed cheeks, natural lips and some '60s black liner on the upper lash line. Her strong, dark brows frame it all.

Leigh Lezark

I pin a lot of Leigh Lezark. She's the queen of the glossy black lob on Pinterest—it suits her SO well!—although in this pic, she could use a bit more smoothing serum. And maybe some powder and foundation. But nevermind, the woman has amazing bone structure, and such a striking gaze.

Sarah Rafferty

As the saying goes, Sarah has thick hair, and lots of it. I'm jels! Plus, it's such a gorgeous rich red, and I love the pairing with a yellow-pink lipstick and matching blush. Even her false lashes don't bother me here, but I still don't think they're necessary.

Elisabeth Moss

Elisabeth is still working hard to distance herself from her 'Mad Men' character. I'm not sure this blonde is her Life Colour, but it's definitely pretty on her—if only we could brush out the piecey waves. She has great skin, so the mascara and pink gloss give her a really fresh-faced, youthful appearance.

Peyton List

If Peyton's skin reminded you of Bella Thorne's, well, that's because she, too, is only 17 years old. Gah! So plump and dewy, these kids. Pigmented pink gloss and barely-there mascara keep the look very pretty and age-appropriate.

Alice Eve

Last blonde of the bunch is Alice, doing the classic bombshell thing in bouncy waves—but au naturel makeup. I actually love how she handled the latter, particularly the chunky lashes and the slightly iridescent gloss. She looks sexy, but not a trying-hard sexy.
