Marc Jacobs' New Nudes offer everything you'd ever want in a neutral lip colour.

Usually, nude lipsticks give me #issues.

You too?

If they're not too chalky, or grey and corpse-like, then the formula itself can be iffy—settling too much into lip lines and accentuating every crack and flake.

But every once in a while, you find a good one. Or seven.

I'm talking about Marc Jacobs' New Nudes mini-collection of neutral lipsticks. Obviously, the Marc Jacobs people knew about all the reasons people like me are afraid of nude colours... and they fixed them.

I was sent two shades to try:

And here's what's inside:

Yep, they look just like those Le Marc Lip Crèmes that I reviewed a while back, except in a different (better) colour. (Oh, and I even unintentionally used the same background to photograph them on, just to mess with ya!)

The formula's a bit different, too. As the name Sheer Lip Gel indicates, it goes on more sheer, with a subtly shiny (but not glossy) finish. They feel absolutely amazing on the lips, really hydrating, and the product doesn't move around like some formulas can.

This is the shade lineup in the collection:

Here, you can see 106 Moody Margot and 108 Have We Met?

I know... it's pink! They had a fairly broad definition of what entails a nude here. Usually, we associate nude lipsticks with Kardashian-style pale beiges that white out your lip tone, but in this range, because everything is so sheer, there's room for more hues. They have everything from the pale pink and beige shown here to deeper roses and gingers—literally there's a colour that'll look nude against every skin tone.

Voilà, my swatches:

And here they are on the lips:

106 Moody Margot

As you can see, 106 Moody Margot is the closest thing in the collection to a traditional light beige nude. I think it's so much better, because the sheerness lets your natural lip tone peek through, making it more flattering and natural-looking. I'd call it a peachy-nude, not brownish as described. This one does a pretty good job at hiding lip imperfections compared to most nudes I've tried—but 108 Have We Met? is even better.

I love 108 Have We Met?! It looks like an unassuming boring pink in the tube, but put it on, and you'll notice the touch of coral warmth that is SO pretty. It gives your lips a great little punch (very "your lips, but better"), but it doesn't take over the rest of your makeup, either. Also, if your lips aren't in the greatest shape, this is a dream—it hides everything. A new favourite for me!
