Time for another dose of beauty inspiration! Celebs weren't as active on the red carpet this past week, what with U.S. Thanksgiving. But those who did step out—like Olivia Wilde, Camilla Belle and Olivia Munn—looked absolutely great.
Here's the must-see hair and makeup:
Like I always say, nobody does shimmery-smoky eyes like Olivia. Hers are just mesmerizing in this pale silvery grey-blue palette, with the shimmer concentrated at the inner corners and the smoke at the outer edges. The black in her waterlines all the way around is also key. The warm-toned peach lipstick and blush is a nice contrast—and also less expected than plain nude. Hair is all wild and wavy, and it really works with the plunging neckline. Don't you want to try this for your next holiday party?
When Camilla went all-over blonde back in the summer, I thought it looked good—but not as good as dark brunette. Now that her roots have grown in a few inches, and she added tons of lowlights, the colour looks so amazing. Definitely healthier, and the highlighted strands cast a pretty glow on her face. See, roots are okay sometimes! Makeup is matchy to the maroon print of her dress, just a little warmer. I really like the idea of a shimmery marsala on the eyes with matching sheer lips, and not much blush. Finally, I must alert you to her forehead and the perfection/smoothness of her skin in that area. Wow!
I know this won't be for everyone, but I'm impressed that Olivia did shimmery lilac eyeshadow with a coral pink lipstick... and basically pulled it off! Can't say I've seen those two colours combined together before. Both were inspired by the flowers on her dress, and on most people, would look way too cutesy/matchy. But Olivia's long, wavy, voluminous black hair kind of "grounds" it all (same with her dark lashes and brows). Her skin finish is fresh and sheer, not powdery, and it's important that her blush tone is a warm, soft peach. One false move there with a cool pink and it would've made this clownish.
Elizabeth's look seems very basic at first, but then you go closer and there are some interesting details. First of all, the black liner. It's applied thickly along the upper lash lines and in the upper waterlines, following the rounded shape of her eyes. Instead of flicking, it ends in a very precise, graphic angle. There's a gold liner underneath her lower lashes, and a lovely golden highlight on top of her tawny blush. Lips got a slick of brownish-nude gloss. We know from her makeup artist that she likes to wear MAC Spice with just lip balm on top, so maybe that's what we're looking at here!
Normally, I would say Alicia's half-up wavy hairstyle isn't the most current. But in this instance, I like its girlish effect, especially with the soft-focus makeup. You'll notice that her pink blush is actually pretty intense, and I guess that's some contour powder making her cheekbones pop. She looks naturally sculpted, instead of made up. Her eyeliner is doing something different—it's extending horizontally out instead of diagonally up, and the texture is soft and blended instead of graphic. Most of all, I love the "just bitten" tone of her lips.
Hallelujah! Emma got a haircut, making my hopes and dreams come true re: those long blonde extensions. (At least I think they were extensions?) Here's a reminder of what she looked like before. The wavy lob is much better, although we might still have work to do on the colour, which borderline washes her out. Then again, her skin is so perfect, it almost doesn't matter. My remaining wish is for her to ditch the other extensions—the lashes! Her dark brows and deep hazel eyes already pop against her pale skin and hair, and the falsies look fake and distracting.
Jada Pinkett Smith
Figure skating costume aside, Jada looks really good. (It's also her first time on this blog!) I haven't been following her at all, so I don't know how new this short hair is—but I like it a lot. When she had long hair, her face tended to look a bit long as well. But this length balances her out nicely, and the way it falls over one eye is flirty and fun. Makeup could be a little better, particularly that mismatched, unblended lip liner, but at least she didn't go tacky on her lashes.
What I love about Holland's look is her pink lip colour, which has a very of-the-moment texture. It's soft and muted, with no harsh edges and no glossiness, either. Her cheeks match, with the blush placement fairly low instead of straight on the apples. She did a similar thing with her eyeliner as Elizabeth Olsen, except there's more of it smudged softly along her bottom lash line, too. Lashes look good, but brows could perhaps be a little tidier. As for her hair, I like the centre-parted straight style (ponytail?) with no earrings; it feels very clean and modern.
This is another look that won't be for everyone! Amber went for an unusual choice of updo—a floppy top knot positioned off to one side, with tons of messy pieces escaping at the sides and nape of her neck. I don't actually hate it, even though this is my exact "hairstyle" when I'm cleaning the bathroom or whatever. The difference is her eye makeup, which has drama to the extreme. We almost always see Amber in shimmery shadow shades, but these ones are darker, more intense and applied in a rounded shape all the way around the eyes. The darkness underneath was a risky move, as sometimes it can make the wearer look like she has dark circles (see: Elisabeth Moss). Amber managed to avoid that, and paired the strong eyes with a bare-looking mouth.
Amber is wearing: Foundation in 11 Beige Absolu // Powder // Eyeliner in Black 1K // Eyeshadow in Monte Carlo // Eyeshadow in Lapis // Highlighter // Mascara in Black // Lip liner in Nude Beige 1C // Lipstick in Patience
You know what I love about Erin's look? She is totally reminding me of '80s magazine covers. Doesn't she have that fresh-faced '80s model thing going on, also with her styling? (Am I crazy?) I just love her unique face shape, accentuated by her hair swept up in a beautiful faux bob. (The solid mid-brunette shade contributes to the vintage vibes.) Makeup is fabulous as well. Her lashes are dark and chunky, with a peach shadow that matches her blush. Then there's a sheer pink gloss on her lips. That colour contrast of warm with cool, on top of fresh skin, gets me every time!
