The annual MTV Movie Awards took place in Los Angeles on Saturday night, and as usual, the guest list was a mixed bag. Jessica brought the glam, Cara brought the edge—and what would an event be these days without Kendall and Gigi?

Jessica Chastain

What I love: Jessica's makeup—all of it! This is the nicest I've ever seen it done, because finally, she switched makeup artists. Can you guess who? It was Kate Lee, the best in the business, and it shows. Notice the brow work compared to how drawn-on they were before. Kate filled them in, but then emphasized the individual brow hairs, which I've also discovered is the secret to a natural look. Gone are the false lashes that overwhelmed her delicate features; instead she has a sculpted smudgy look that balances perfectly with her soft berry lips. Also really like her hair at this length. What I'd change: Nothing!

Cara Delevingne

What I love: Cara has the coolest red carpet style, right down to the little beauty touches. Am I right? Now that she's not as over-exposed as a couple years ago, I feel like I can appreciate these things even more. The braid snaking down her part, with a matte greyish-berry lipstick, add the right amount of edge here—but not so much that she doesn't still look gorgeous. I also love that she never cheapens her makeup with false lashes. What I'd change: Nothing!

Cara is wearing: Serum // Moisturizer // Foundation // Powder // Blush in Praline // Bronzer in Seduction // Eyeshadow in Peach // Eyeshadow in Lilac // Eyeliner in Caviar // Eyeshadow in Deep Night (to smudge eyeliner) // Brow gel // Mascara // Lipstick in Stripped

Emilia Clarke

What I love: Emilia's smile looks divine! This sheer but strong pink is great with the pretty shape of her lips and teeth. Normally, we see her with a lot less volume in her hair, but I'm okay with the full shape and texture of her wavy bob, for a change. What I'd change: She looks beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I'm feeling like some of that beauty is getting overwhelmed by the hair and the eye makeup. I prefer Emilia brunette, without the blonde highlights, and I think a cleaner eye would've been better. Still love her though!

Lizzy Caplan

What I love: Lizzy's new haircut! I am really digging this cute bob 'n' bangs combo on her, which shows off her long neck and balances a long face shape. (Here's her hair long, for reference.) The makeup is also younger and fresher than many of her looks in the past, such as this. The shimmer totally transforms her smoky eyes for an almost wet-look eye, and I always love me some chunky defined lashes. So good with the seamless blush and sheer baby pink lips! What I'd change: Nothing.

Halsey

What I love: Halsey's monochromatic tawny peach makeup and short haircut. I just really like this woman's look—she has the cutest nose, half-smile, big brown eyes and freckles. And I think this boyish hairstyle looks just right on her, sans colour. The tone-on-tone makeup is very flattering, and she doesn't look like she's trying too hard. What I'd change: The lashes don't bug me too much, but I'd prefer to see her brows stronger (eg. the tails filled in). And a lighter touch on the contour/blush.

Halsey is wearing: Eyeshadow in Disco Dust

Charlize Theron

What I love: Good for Charlize for really committing to this intimidating ice queen look! Even though I prefer her hair down, she does pull off this extremely tight, hard-to-wear hairstyle. Her skin is in great condition, and while her makeup is never that exciting, I find her restraint admirable: no heavy liner or shadow, and normal-looking lashes. What I'd change: The only thing with having your hair scraped up like that is that it accentuates any discrepancies in the colour, but maybe it's the lighting that's making it look stripey/ashy. I also think her brows could be more feathery and a softer colour.

Kendall Jenner

What I love: It's always fun to see the pom-pom ponytail, no? Olivia Wilde still did it better, but Kendall's attempt is not bad (except for the bump at the top). I like how she did her lashes here, very natural with lots of definition on the lower lids. What I'd change: I am sooo tired of this contoured cheeks and nude lips recipe—or maybe it's that they're on Kardashian features and I've reached my limit. The makeup doesn't really go with the hair, which calls for fresher skin instead of this heaviness. Is her hair really this long now or are these extensions?

Gigi Hadid

What I love: I guess Gigi's shimmery bright gold eyeshadow is pretty cool. Her waterlines are light, but not the Heidi Klum signature white—this looks more modern. What I'd change: Maybe I'm not a fan because Gigi looks so sad. But also, not loving the faux bangs on her face shape, nor the matching over-lined lips and heavy cheeks. It's far too much on 20-year-old skin (well, any age of skin)! They almost always overdo it on Gigi; to me she is most beautiful like this

Gigi is wearing: Foundation // Concealer (to brighten) // Powder // Contour and blush in Medium to Deep // Brow crayon in Blonde // Brow mascara in Blonde // Eyeshadow in Barely Beige // Eyeliner in Soft Nude // Eyeshadow in Charcoal Chrome // Eyeshadow in The Rock Nudes (matte black shade) // Mascara in Blackest Black // Lip liner in Nude // Lipstick in Nude Thrill // Lipstick in Bare All

Brittany Snow

What I love: Brittany always gets one thing basically right—playing up her eyes. Although I might disagree on the execution, I think it's the wise choice to emphasize how big, bright and blue they are with lots and lots of lashes. What I'd change: This centre-parted, behind-the-ears hairstyle has been a micro-trend for a few years, but it's not my favourite on her. Like Charlize, it only emphasizes her highlighting job, and not in a good way. I'd rather see Brittany with all-over solid colour and a shorter, fluffier style, like she had here. I think she could be more precise with her makeup, such as cleaner lashes and better-blended lip liner.

Kat Graham

What I love: I'm glad Kat is keeping up with the subtler, tone-on-tone makeup. (I mean, it's not subtle, but at least it's not quite so cray.) Her lips are the best part of the look. What I'd change: I was in to see Mary the other day, and she informed me that these are called "Kelley Baker brows," and they're all over Instagram. You know what else I'm going to point out: false lashes, heavy contour, waves that need brushing out. It's a testament to how pretty she is that she still looks quite good!

Rebel Wilson

What I love: Rebel actually has great skin, and I am a fan of this peach lipstick colour. Not sure if her blonde is part-yellow on purpose. What I'd change: What is going on with her bangs—can she even see? They are too long and too wispy, plus I think a more side-swept style would elongate her face. Interesting choice on the eye makeup... it almost looks like she got punched! I love a wet-look eye, but this looks messy and is giving her dark circles. The obvious bottom lip liner is the least of her worries.

Who had your favourite (and least favourite) beauty looks on this red carpet?
