12 People's Choice looks

We only just finished oohing and ahhing at all the beauty looks from the Golden Globes, and now there's another red carpet event for our perusal: this week's People's Choice Awards.

As a whole, I didn't feel the hair and makeup here quite lived up to the standard set so far this awards season—but there were still a few inspiring moments. Take a look, and let me know your thoughts:

Ruby Rose

What I like: Ruby's blackened lips! She steals the show with this shock of colour, pairing it with subtly smoked eyes, natural lashes and strong brows. I appreciate that her skin still has some healthy sheen, to play down the seriousness of the lipstick. (Note the matching nails.) The textured long fringe adds her signature edge. What I'd change: Nothing.

Ruby is wearing: Eyeliner in Whiskey // Eyeliner in Mushroom // Lipstick in Blackmail // Lipstick in Bobby Dazzle

Priyanka Chopra

What I like: Priyanka's coral-pink lips and cheeks. While her Globes look was all about dramatic lips and eyes, this one is sheer, soft and feminine—and it's doing amazing things for her warm complexion. Rather than heavy shadow or liner, her eyes are adorned with long lashes (and I actually think this is a good pair!). She wore the same loose waves again. What I'd change: Nothing. But I NEED to examine this lip situation in a future Before & After.

Priyanka is wearing: Face oil // Face mask (tissued off) // Face mist // Foundation in Praline // Contour // Powder in 5 // Blush in Rose Royalty // Eyeshadow in VPE10 Warm Neutral Mattes // Mascara in Black // Lipstick in Fantasy

Blake Lively

What I like: Blake's long, thick, expertly highlighted hair. I know it doesn't look the most polished the way she's posing here, but I actually love that she wore it down. With her glittering black dress and matching earrings, it's very casual glam. She went glowy and warm with the makeup, choosing brown shadow, contoured cheeks and a pink lip. What I'd change: I think her false lashes were slightly better at the Globes—these seem too long at the outer edges.

Blake is wearing: Illuminator in Golden // Eyeshadow in Boudoir Charme // Eyeshadow in Nude Intense // Lash primer // Mascara // Brow pomade

Ali Larter

What I like: Ali's glowing skin and warm pink lipstick—such a great shade for her blonde hair and fair complexion. I also really love her lashes, which have that fluffy, natural texture I always rave about. There's no other detectable eye or brow makeup, and her hair is pulled into a loose bun. What I'd change: I'm not crazy about the height at the crown (seems a bit dated?). Also, I think her brows are getting too high at the tails from Botox.

Ali is wearing: Foundation // Blush in Pale Pink // Lipstick in La Secrète

Camilla Luddington

What I like: Camilla's modern take on a smoky eye. The charcoal colour starts right in her waterlines, and then a matching shadow is smudged out all the way around her eyes. That's framed by bold brows, but her lips were left sheer and glossy pink. With so much happening on the eyes, she wisely pulled her hair into a ponytail with a few loose strands to frame her face. What I'd change: I always prefer when the individual brow hairs are defined, instead of filling in the space underneath them with powder.

Yara Shahidi

What I like: Yara's soft, matte red lips and cute top knot. And her skin—but keep in mind, she's only 16 years old! If you look closely, there's some brown liner in her lower waterlines, and I think I see a cat eye on the top. I'm glad she used restraint on the lashes. What I'd change: Nothing. She's adorable.

Ashley Greene

What I like: Ashley's wavy high ponytail. I love, love, love the soft texture, fuzziness around the hairline and this lighter colour (much better on her than dark brown). You almost miss it, but she is also wearing purple eyeshadow that matches her dress. The lashes are pretty decent, too. I like that her lips are a warm beige, as a cool tone there would've looked off. What I'd change: I'm trying to figure out the line down the side of her nose... could it be a muscle movement from Botox? There's a lot of speculation that she had a nose job, so maybe that's part of the problem.

Victoria Justice

What I like: Victoria's long, straight hair and good brows. She also has great skin, but... What I'd change: Her makeup is just so heavy! I mean, she still looks beautiful, but her eyes almost get lost in all the black liner, shadow and especially the jumbo-sized false lashes. The '90s lipstick could be interesting on its own, but all together, there's no balance. No freshness.

Victoria is wearing: Primer // Foundation in Sable // Blush in Frantic Pink // Highlighter in Mary-Lou Manizer // Bronzer in Dream // Eyeshadow in Light/Medium // Mascara // Brow pencil in Soft Brown // Lipstick in Bonbon // Lip liner in Chocolate

Kristen Bell

What I like: Kristen's wavy, side-parted lob. I like that the texture isn't too piecey, and the ends look nice and blunt. In the makeup, she went for a silvery shadow with jet-black lashes, keeping her lips and cheeks a soft peachy-pink. What I'd change: I'm not sure why this lacks sophistication... is it because the lashes are too strong? I also dislike white eyeliner in the waterlines, and the brows need a bit of gel for definition and hold.

Jennifer Lopez

What I like: Even with tons of contour, Jennifer's skin is great. Hard to believe she is going to be 48 this year! I always like when she wears her hair off her face, this time in a low, straight ponytail. What I'd change: These lashes are beyond crazy! Also, she's doing that thing again over overlining her lips without blending the pencil, and then topping it all off with a goopy gloss.

Jennifer is wearing: Foundation in Natural Tan // Foundation in Perfect Beige // Foundation in Nude Beige // Foundation in Golden Beige // Concealer // Contour in Medium // Blush in Tender Rose // Blush in Innocent Flush // Bronzer in 90 Sun Glow // Powder // Moisturizer (as highlighter) // Eyeshadow in Nude 1 // Eyeshadow in Smokey Burgundy // Eyeliner in Black // Eyeliner in Ultra Black // Mascara // False lashes in Tease // Brow pencil in Blonde and Brunette // Brow mascara in Ash Blond // Lip liner in Inspire // Lipstick in Toasted Almond // Lipstick in Nature's Blush

Jamie Chung

What I like: Jamie's berry lips. I've always liked her in this colour! I don't mind the overlining. What I'd change: The brows are way too heavy and warm-toned. Even the lashes, blush and eyeshadow could be dialled down. But mostly, I'm not feeling this hair. The highlights are too light, and the styling is too piecey. I think it looks healthier when the ends aren't so shattered. Jamie is so pretty, she doesn't need to try so hard!

Candace Cameron Bure

What I like: I associate D.J. Tanner—I mean Cameron—with blonde hair, but this auburn is quite pretty on her. I even like the off-the-face, mid-length style. She has great skin, and the glossy coral lip gives a nice pop of shine. What I'd change: They're not as outrageous as JLo's, but these false lashes are still too much. Her drawn-on arches should be more feathery and less red. Even though they match her hair, I think it always looks more natural to go ashier on the brows.
