Editor’s note: Curly hair peeps! I know I’ve been ignoring you. Ever heard the phrase “write about what you know?” Well, I know nothing about curly hair. My hair couldn’t hold a curl to save its life. Luckily, we’ve got new BEAUTYEDITOR.ca contributor Jasmine Kabiling to share her super awesome tips. Take it away, Jasmine!
If you have thick, frizz-prone, naturally wavy/curly hair like myself, then you know it’s what bad hair days and the most volatile love-hate relationships are made of. My hair and I love each other right now (I’ll explain how this came to be in a bit), but believe me when I say that there are days when I long for straight, silky hair so I can simply get up and go in the mornings without having to deal with the Chewbacca-Medusa lovechild that decided to make its home atop my head overnight.
I can’t say that I don’t get a little jealous when I watch tutorial vids on achieving perfect Victoria’s Secret Angel hair or those gorgeous brushed-out waves, but only because it requires having somewhat straight hair to work with. My initial thought is always: “Ugh, I have to straighten my hair first? Sew. Much. Werk.” Yeah, lazy people with curly hair problems, I know. Sigh.

Sensitive skin: Michelle’s talked about it before, and you already know about some of my skin issues. Something you didn’t know? Not only is my skin sensitive, but I also have rosacea (characterized by patchy flushing and inflammation on the cheeks, nose and forehead). Charming, I know. In the past, dermatologists have given me prescriptions for creams and gels—but they haven’t really helped. So, up until about a month ago, I was doing zip-zero-zilch to address the problem. Ignore it and it’ll go away, right? (Wrong.)
Now, combine the cold winter weather (I swear, it’s freezing in Vancouver!) with sensitivity and rosacea, and you can imagine the effects. (Michelle even went so far as to call winter a “bitch” and I totes agree. If you want some fab general winter skincare tips, check out her post.) When I heard about three new lines made precisely for sensitive skin and rosacea, it was like a SIGN. Not only did they calm my skin down, but they kept it moisturized, clear and even-toned (Gasp! I KNOW!). Let’s check ‘em out—but first, I want to give you a few tips on what to look for in your skincare. Keep reading »
This week kicked off with one of the beauty highlights of the year, the Golden Globe Awards. Not everyone felt my Zooey love, or that Michelle Williams’ headband was appropriate on someone well out of her tweens… but I think we all came together on the sentiment that Claire Danes really needs better people. I mean, come on—they couldn’t hand the girl some blotting sheets before going up there?
Anyway! Lots of other beauty goings-on that we should probably discuss. I wanna talk about what Snooki looks like without makeup; a new way to “enhance” your ladybits; celebrity doubles; my brow makeover; and how my vanity makes me work harder for YOU. Keep reading »
