Amy Adams - Muppets premiere 2011

This is it, folks. If you’ve got long hair, and you like to be what we industry peeps call “on trend,” then I strongly suggest you make this hairstyle your look for holiday 2011. I say this because every season has its signature beauty thing that I gush over… remember last December it was Natalie Portman’s side bun and fuchsia lippie?

This time around, it’s all about the deep side-part and softly cascading, brushed-out retro waves. Out of any celeb, Amy Adams’ look at the Muppets premiere a few weeks back really, truly emulates what it’s all about. (Also? I’m having a major Amy moment lately because I will shortly be taking the plunge into a slightly heightened, Amy-style red. MOAR strawberry blonde! MOAR!)

But she’s not the only one: Fergie and Lea Michele had similar ‘dos the other night at the premiere of New Year’s Eve (um, Valentine’s Day 2.0, anyone?). Check out the pics and we’ll break it down: Keep reading »

Balmain - Fall 2011 beauty

Do you go through beauty phases? I TOTALLY do. There was that time in 2006 when I became obsessed with winged eyeliner and wore it day in, day out… my coral lipstick moment of 2010… and now, lately, I’ve been pretty much all about a bare face. I was probably influenced by these ladies too. But if I’m being brutally honest, I was also just plain ready for a nice palette cleanse. You know, after trying to replicate the Fashion Week eyeshadow-to-the-brows, and juicy red lips, and borderline-chunky mascara. Sometimes it’s cooler to dial it all back and not try so hard. Or at least that’s what I tell myself.

Still, everyone knows that a natural look done right takes as much (sometimes more) effort than when you make one feature the focus. So come have a peek at what goes into mine… Keep reading »

Todd Lynn - Spring 2012 beauty

Here in the city we call home, Toronto Fashion Week recently came to a close—but the designers left a clear message for spring 2012. It’s all about the eyes and the hair. So many designers showed hair that was pulled away from the face and accompanied by colourful lids and completely nude lips. (Frankly, I’m kind of upset about the latter since I just don’t think I can give up my fuchsia lipstick.) But we’ll let you be the judge of this startlingly simple roundup. Here are six of my favourite beauty looks from the spring shows. Keep reading »
