I went shopping on the weekend and encountered my first Christmas music of the season—although I hear some places have been playing it since October. Yowza! I think my reaction to it (anxiety, annoyance) means that I’m nowhere near ready to start thinking about the holidays.

I don’t know about you, but for me September was one big blur. Keeping up with the ‘big four’ Fashion Weeks (New York, London, Milan and Paris) is always daunting—there are the endless tweets to read, livestreams to watch and photo galleries to click through. And that’s just to check out the hair and makeup! Did you get up at the crack of dawn to watch the royal wedding? Le sigh… even if you’re not a “wedding person,” you have to admit that Kate looked absolutely beautiful in her Sarah Burton dress. (OH at Westminster Abbey: William telling her those exact words as well!) I’m a huge fan of lace, as well as sleeves, so seeing the lacey sleeves made me very, very happy. (Can we PLEASE make this a trend instead of all those heavy-on-the-cleavage, nightclub-appropriate wedding gowns that were popular in the ’00s?)

Keeping with the understated theme, of course, were Kate’s rather excellent choices in hair, makeup and nails. Setting an example for brides everywhere, she hasn’t gone for anything outrageous—like an elaborate updo or heavier-than-usual makeup—she just looks like herself, only better.
