My face is, like, SO dewy today. That’s because I started off my morning with a facial at the International Dermal Institute—a.k.a. the place where Dermalogica skin therapists go to train, and where media are sometimes invited for the hands-down BEST skin treatments in the city. (It’s not open to the public, unfortch—but you can get the same 75-minute Dermalogica facial at any spa that offers them. I just feel more special getting to go to Dermalogica HQ.)
Anyway, today my therapist (as in the skin kind) got to talking to me about facial mists, because she used one on me that definitely contributed to the aforementioned dewy glow. And just last week I was talking to Janine about facial mists too… and the week before that I had some arrive in the mail. So let’s just say that this product category is on my mind lately. And there are a few important things I want to tell you about it. Ready? Keep reading »
Ten years ago, The Bachelor was in its first season, we all thought super-low-rise jeans looked cool (we were SO mistaken)… and our lip product choices were seriously, sadly, limited. Do you remember? You either wore goopy, sticky gloss; drying, heavy, too-dark lipstick; or a plain colourless balm like Blistex.

Lipsticks are way balmier—as the French say, they’re more “comfortable”—and in some cases have merged completely into sheer, hybrid tinted balm formats. We’re even seeing a new form of lip stain that’s also…wait for it… glossy.
Does this excite you? It should. Here’s a look at the major spring lip launches that you need to know about. Keep reading »
WELL. After all the beauty WTF-ery in Milan, we’re getting a taste of it from Paris too. The biggest of the big four—Paris Fashion Week—wrapped up last week… and ooh la la, it was one of the most experimental in beauty history. I might need to lie down.
The thing is, though, that even though I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing most of these looks on the street, I’m still a fangirl for the creativity and artistry behind them. The models look weird, yes, but there’s a cool factor here. (I can’t say the same for, say, Roberto Cavalli’s rainbow eyeshadow or Fendi’s wet braided pigtails in Milan. Sorry Milan.)
So keep in mind that these are meant to shock and awe, and then take a look at five major trends that will direct what we do with our makeup (and hair) in the coming months: Keep reading »
