Holiday makeup

Holiday makeup collections are awesome for many reasons. First of all, the packaging is usually WAY prettier than the regular stuff you can buy. So you can totes make everyone swoon when you pull it out of your handbag or when they come over and see it sitting pretty in your bedroom. (OR, if you’re a geeky makeup collector like me, you may put it straight in the “archives” and not actually *cough* use it….)

What? You don’t archive your makeup?

Okay, moving right along. Another reason holiday collections rule is because they usually involve items you might not normally buy (like the body powder I’m going to tell you about in a sec), fun seasonal colours or amazingly well-priced palettes. Then there is the stuff of pure fantasy… like outrageously cool false lashes that could only ever work on New Year’s Eve. So fun, right? Here’s the stuff I suggest you seek out, stat! Keep reading »

Model with gold nails

I went shopping on the weekend and encountered my first Christmas music of the season—although I hear some places have been playing it since October. Yowza! I think my reaction to it (anxiety, annoyance) means that I’m nowhere near ready to start thinking about the holidays.

Unless we’re talking nail polish, that is. Do YOU have a holiday nail polish wardrobe? Because you really should. See, it’s all about outfit coordination. Sure, you can totes get by with a classic red from seasons past… but the beauty stakes are getting higher in this category. You’ll be so much more on trend if you play with metallics, glitters or unusual shades like navy, green or vampy burgundy. Here’s a look at what’s new this year, along with my favourite colour picks. Consider it my early bird gift to you! Keep reading »

Camilla Belle - Missoni launch

Besides concealer and blush, a good neutral eyeshadow is right up there in terms of my desert-island, can’t-live-without-’em, must-have beauty products. Here is why. You know how I always say that the number one place we all should apply concealer is at the inner corners of the eyes? Well, ever since I started using Latisse, which discolours your lids a bit (ugh), I’ve extended that tip to applying concealer (or a hybrid concealing/priming product like this) all the way across the lid and at the outer corners, too. (And if I’m looking REALLY tired, I’ll do the upside-down triangle thing as well.)

But you know what happens when you get all that concealer on your eyelids? It creases. Badly. And so I’ve found that the best way to prevent that is by applying a neutral, waterproof, cream eyeshadow on top. It works like magic! And you just slap it on with your fingers—no technique required! Now, I would love to recommend to you the product I favour, but as reader Kate recently discovered—after I got her hooked—it has been discontinued. This makes me want to cry because I’ve been loyal to this shadow for something like five years now, which is unheard of for a beauty ed, and my supply is quickly dwindling. BOO.

However, there ARE quite a few other options out there. So let’s dig in… Keep reading »
