Fendi - FW12 beauty

While my own beauty choices are becoming increasingly (maybe even disturbingly, considering my line of work) classic and boring (I guess that’s what 6+ years in this industry will do to you), I love a good beauty freak show as much as the next person. And I don’t know what happened this year in Milan, but the designers did NOT disappoint. You know, if things like orange eyebrows, or wearing four or more contrasting shades of shimmery eyeshadow all at one time, are important to you.

I’ll let you take a look only on the condition that you promise me you’ll never, ever try these at home. I mean, this stuff is a World of No. And they’re not even obscure designers—I’m talking Prada, Fendi, Versace…. Luckily, there were a couple of houses (Gucci only gets a 0.5) whose makeup I can endorse. Come and look at the fug, and the fab! Keep reading »

Issa London - FW12 beauty

Contrary to what this headline might imply, I did not, in fact, attend London Fashion Week. (Never have.) But that’s okay, because you really do get a better view from behind your computer—and without all the stress about where to sit and what to wear.

And you know what’s kind of exciting? While London used to get a little neglected—sandwiched as it was between the more high-profile Fashion Weeks in New York, Milan and Paris—change is in the air! First of all, there’s that whole royalty/Kate Middleton/Issa dress thing. (That’s the Issa London show in the pic above—gorge, right?) And Moschino Cheap & Chic, which used to show in Milan, moved this season to London… Style.com mused that it said something about London’s current “energy.”

Now, I’m always a bit leery when people start talking about “energy,” especially when there are implied quotation marks. (Once, a guy told me I had good “energy” and I simply could NOT date him. Ew.) However, I will concede that I’m feeling the vibes when it comes to a few of London’s new beauty trends. Let’s take a look: Keep reading »

Oscars 2012 - Vanity Fair Oscars Party - Olivia Wilde

Can I be honest? I liked the beauty looks going on at the Oscars parties waaay better than what was happening at the Oscars themselves. (Okay, maybe aside from Jessica C., Rose and Rooney.) With Emma letting me down, and my sudden disillusionment with Michelle Williams, and the let’s-not-even-talk-about-it Sandra Bullock tragedy, I guess it’s only natural that I sought comfort in the reassuringly excellent hair and makeup of celebs like Olivia Wilde, Elizabeth Olsen and Kate Beckinsale.

All three made appearances at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, and between that event and the Elton John AIDS Foundation one, I was one happy beauty ed. In fact, I zeroed in on five key beauty trends that you should probably know about. (*Fancy ballgown not required.) Keep reading »
