Maybe it was Billy Crystal. Maybe it was the Cirque de Soleil interlude. Or maybe it just that I settled in to watch the Oscars straight after OD’ing on cupcakes at a four-year-old’s birthday party. Whatever it was, last night made me verrry, verrry sleepy. Seriously, it’s a problem when the main show highlights are J.Lo’s nip-slip (follow on Twitter: @JLosNipple) and Angelina’s leg (@AngiesRightLeg).
Thankfully, there was plenty of exciting beauty action on the pre-game red carpet, so I didn’t feel guilty bailing on the dullsville show itself. (Okay, there was fashion action too, but I don’t pretend to know anything about that… so remember that I’m only talking about hair and makeup here!)

So… how about that dance number by Jennifer Lopez last night? Woof, girl. (Although I was maybe just slightly uncomfortable with all the stripping and grinding.) But seriously, it’s hard to believe she’s 42 years old. And she’s STILL holding her own against youngins like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
That said, J. Lo’s more likely to stick with a classic look (this time, scraped-back hair with nude makeup and a wonderful peach lip) than push the boundaries with a Katy Perry-style hair colour or Jennifer Hudson-style lipstick. But that’s why this year’s AMAs were a pleasing mix of beauty looks: there was the experimental, the classic and the just plain gorgeous. Let’s review! Keep reading »
Okay, I may not have been kind with coverage of our last red carpet event. But either I am in a better mood today or the stars at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards last night really did pull it together beauty-wise.
It was a very A-list affair, with attendees like the Jennifers (Aniston and Lopez) and a Jessica (Alba), plus Kerry Washington and my beauty crush Emma Stone. Somehow Lea Michele snuck into the party (one of these things is not like the others), but surprisingly she had one of my favourite beauty looks of the night! Come check ‘em all out… Keep reading »
