Lately, I’ve been all about natural and organic beauty prodz—things I can put on my face and feel good about. Because I have sensitive skin, I’ve found that the fewer chemicals and harsh ingredients I use, the better my skin looks. (Being a holistic nutritionist, these things really excite me.)
Yes, I use mascaras and bronzers and eyeliners full of hard to pronounce ingredients (and I don’t plan on stopping—they’re my HG prodz, after all!), but when it comes to what I actually put on my skin, I’m giving the natural route a go. (Part of my inspiration? Reading Beauty: Pure + Simple by Kristen Ma.)
Anyway, for the last few weeks I’ve been a total product guinea pig (tough job, I know!), and testing out a whole bunch of the latest natural and organic skincare items to hit store shelves. Here are four brand new favourites… Keep reading »
Gentle Reader. I’ve only been writing this blog since 2009, but already I feel like we’ve been through so much. There was the great Ombré experiment of 2010, our many attempts to get the perfect non-Eagle application of foundation and powder, that time when I went off on medium tones, and of course, my incessant babbling about OMGcodliveroil. It’s kind of like we’re in a relationship—which is why I don’t take the idea of threesomes lightly.
Did I just cross a line? What I mean is that there are three of us now: you, me and brand-new BEAUTYEDITOR.ca contributor Elizabeth Oborne, who you may have noticed was the author of several awesome recent articles—including this one on the wonders of coconut oil, this list of what to pack when you travel and this post on how fabulous infrared saunas are for your skin and body. You already know that she used to work as a flight attendant on private jets (!). But here’s a little bit more intel: Elizabeth is now based out of Vancouver, where she recently completed her B.A. as well as a certificate in magazine publishing and a registered Holistic Nutrition diploma. It’s the latter (as well as her fabulous writing) that makes her a kindred spirit, because as you know, I’m a closet health geek myself.
So I think it’s high time you guys met. I’m a firm believer that you don’t REALLY know someone until you peek inside her makeup bag (and I’m not even kidding), so here’s a little beauty Q&A—I’m the Q, Elizabeth is the A—to help you guys get acquainted. Keep reading »

You know, I am the first to admit that I have expensive tastes. Ironically so—because even though editors’ salaries might be described (as Nadine Jolie infamously quipped) as janitorial, I’ve been spoiled by working in an industry where you’re getting product deliveries from the likes of Chanel and Hermès on the regular.
It’s weird.
But you know what? Even though you might not think $10 goes very far, I have to admit that it kind of does. In pulling together this post (which I initially wasn’t going to limit to the under-$10 thing), I was shocked at how many of my favourite things are actually quite cheap. And I’m not talking about the crappy travel-size shampoo bins at Shoppers Drug Mart, savvy?
So. If you need to stuff a stocking this week—or participate in that cruel ritual known as the Secret Santa—may I suggest one of these items? Because your giftee(s) will actually USE and LIKE them. Trust.
You might want to buy doubles… Keep reading »
