2010 Grammy Awards: Kristen Bell

I’m used to seeing Kristen Bell looking more conservative, or maybe it’s just her straight-laced character in the previews for When In Rome. Either way, it’s nice to see her get a bit more rock ‘n roll here, at least with her hair. I’m really loving centre parts right now—possibly induced by too much exposure to Taylor Swift‘s hair crutch, the sideswept bang. Kristen’s hair is fine and straight (a texture I am all too familiar with), so it looks like this was achieved with some kind of texturizing spray to get those slightly messy, piecey bits.

I’m also loving the colour. In recent years, I’ve not been a fan of bleached blonde, but like I said here, it’s palatable because of the lowlights.

The Look: A bold orange-red lip.

The Lowdown: I love a red lip on a blonde—with scraped-back hair, it looks so fresh and classic. While most of us stick to the blue-red lipstick family, Kristen’s sporting a warmer, orangey shade here, which is quite lovely. The problem with warm reds is that unless you’re a celeb who can afford frequent Zoom whitening sessions, they can make your teeth look frighteningly yellow. So proceed with caution—preferably after a full-fledged week or two of Whitestrips usage.

The other little trick to note with this look is that if you DO go with an orangey red, you really need to keep your blush and eyeshadow in the same colour family. Think coral, not pink for the cheeks, and a warm earthy tone on the lids.
