Mila Jovovich

Selena Gomez Perez Hilton Blue Ball

I may have come down hard on Mila Jovovich last year for going hog wild on the orange (dress, eyeshadow, blush AND lipstick)… but in general, I like when things match. You know, like bras and panties. Shoes and handbags. Bacon and eggs. It helps one make sense of the world.

So that’s why I’m torn on the topic of whether you should match your makeup to your outfit. For every instance where it looks terrifically chic, there’s another where it’s a bit too… considered. Sometimes the surprise of a contrasting colour on the eyes or the lips just elevates the entire outfit, in that “I just threw this on but of course I always look this gorgeous” kind of way.

Let’s start with the Not Bad, But Still Boring ones first. Zzzzzzz… Keep reading »

Mila Jovovich Hollywood Awards Gala 2010 orange dress

You know the expression “too matchy-matchy,” right? It’s a fashion thing that came into favour around the early ’00s, I believe (or at least that’s when we Canucks realized that the Canadian tuxedo* really wasn’t something to be proud of). “Matchy-matchy” even has its own reference in the Urban Dictionary:

Often used in fashion blogs. Used to describe an outfit that is too coordinated and consists of too many of the same types of colours, patterns, fabrics, accessories, designer pieces, thematic elements, etc. Can also be used in reference to interior design.

Off the top of my head, one recent celeb example of FASHION matchy-matchiness is Hilary Swank, who, if you’ll recall, kinda sorta failed on her faux bob execution last week. Now, don’t get me wrong—I actually love this outfit, and colour—but in the words of the brilliant Fug Girls, “I really, really don’t know if I needed to see it replicated from the ears to her ankles all the way down to her toenails.” Keep reading »
