Okay, so it’s well past Halloween, but that doesn’t mean the fun’s all over with your beauty routine. Lately, I’ve been seeing a ton of crazy, wacky beauty products… and it has me thinking: is over-the-top the new normal? I blame Lady Gaga, Kesha and Nicki Minaj. They’ve collectively encouraged us to experiment and try new things—which I’m all for!—but let’s be honest, certain trends just don’t work for the office. Or grocery store.

Just when we were ready to put Ombré to bed, Drew Barrymore has gone and resurrected it. I’m not sure how I feel about this because as you know, I said it was over months ago (when I ditched my blah brown Ombré for a strawberry blonde-tastic double-process ‘do). Maybe I need to reconsider.
And that’s not all that’s happening in beauty this week. Movember is in full force, the Country Music Awards happened, Adriana Lima revealed how she gets in shape for a Victoria’s Secret fashion show, Gwyneth Paltrow has a makeup tutorial… and I decided there ARE some exceptions to my anti-nail art stance. Celebrities have the Oscars (and let’s face it, a zillion other red carpet events). Beauty editors have the P&G Beauty & Grooming Awards. They’re our equivalent of the Oscars, and they were held this week in downtown Toronto. So you might say it was a pretty big week in beauty, even though I’ve been MIA for most of it thanks to the terrible cold virus that’s been going around—anyone else been struck down by that? Thankfully Elizabeth and Nicole have been holding down the fort.
