Where you sit at Fashion Week is kind of a big deal. If you’re lucky enough to be seated in the front row, that means you are either a Very Important Editor or a celebrity. (Or both, in the case of Anna Wintour.) Just to give you an idea of my ranking, I think when I was at ELLE Canada and attended New York Fashion Week, I was somewhere between row four and Siberia.
I was okay with it.
Anyway, what’s interesting about fashion shows it that there’s just as much action in the front row as on the runway. And unlike red carpet events, where you tend to get a “grown-up prom” type of look (as celebrity hairstylist Danilo called it when I interviewed him today), Fashion Week REALLY raises the style stakes. Whoa… what’s up with all the weird hair, Hollywood? In the past week or so, a whole bunch of celebs collectively decided to get a little crazy with the dye—and I’m talking the BLUE and PINK kind of crazy. The only explanation I can think of, even though I don’t really believe in astrology, is that there’s a Mercury Retrograde going on right now and it’s working its voodoo. (The old MR certainly manages to frig up all of my electronic devices, without fail, so it’s one planetary movement that I now reluctantly believe in. Does it impact beauty decisions? I have to think so.)
Not that blue or pink hair is necessarily terrible, when it’s done right. Oh yes, I actually do approve of this look in a couple of instances. (Although you won’t catch me sporting any of it, obviously.) That said, every new beauty triumph comes with its fair share of tragedies… so let’s analyze who gets a gold star and who gets a big fat FAIL. Keep reading »

Eeks! It’s the last week of 2010—how did that happen?
Hopefully Santa was good to you on Saturday and you’re taking some time off this week to lounge around, eat a lot, maybe have a sneaky shopping trip or two and then eat and lounge some more. (Oh and maybe play with some of your new beauty prodz.)
