Reese did an amazing copper eye last night—with the colour going all the way around the eyes—along with velvety perfect skin and the barest hint of colour on her lips and cheeks.
Here's the close-up:
Makeup artist Mai Quynh (one of my faves!) was inspired by the blue-green colour of Reese's Calvin Klein dress, as well as her golden complexion. The bright yet sultry eyes were the main focus.
To start, she prepped the skin with the splurgiest of moisturizers, La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream:
Then she applied Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, one of my favourite balms, to Reese's lips.
To prime the skin, Mai used a foundation brush to apply Laura Mercier Foundation Primer all over the face.
Next up was a foundation that won't be out until this fall; it's called Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation. Says Mai: “I love how the natural, matte texture of this foundation melts into the skin, leaving it smooth and flawless.” She used a Beautyblender Sponge to apply it.
Mai used Laura Mercier Secret Concealer under Reese's eyes:
And Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (a makeup artist fave) around her nose.
On the apples of the cheeks is Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline as the base:
Then, Mai layered Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper on top. Pro tip: Mai says, “Layering creams and powders will ensure that your makeup will stay on longer.”
To set the complexion, Mai used Laura Mercier Pressed Setting Powder in Translucent, applied with the Laura Mercier Finishing Brush.
To create the neutral lip look, Mai used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Play as the base.
Then she did a swipe of Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bellini on top for subtle shine.
To create the eyes, Mai started by mixing Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sand Glow:
She applied the colour from the inside of the eyelids, blending it towards the outer lids.
Next, she applied the standout copper colour, Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Fire Glow, from the lash line to the crease using the Laura Mercier All Over Eye Colour Brush. (It's a shade Mai has used before on Reese.) The shadow was blended using the Laura Mercier Eye Crease Brush.
To add depth and dimension, Mai layered Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Earth Glow in the outer crease.
To finish, Reese got two coats of Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara in Black.
Here's how it all came together:
The takeaway: try a shimmering coppery shadow, all the way around your eyes, for a tone-on-tone, glowy look—especially gorge on blue eyes.
