The new Ours by Cheryl Hickey skincare range.

Cheryl Hickey has a skincare line... and I like it.

Right now, you're either going, "Who is Cheryl Hickey?" or "Why on earth does she have a skincare line?"

I know. It's definitely random. Not that Cheryl herself isn't extremely likeable as the host of ET Canada, a role she's held since 2005 (basically the closest thing we have to a celeb in this country). It's just a surprise to see a television personality—let alone a Canadian television personality—getting into the beauty business.

It's even more of a surprise that her product range, Ours by Cheryl Hickey, isn't the usual gimmicky, heavily-fragranced, cheapo chemical crap. A very welcome surprise!

Instead, the eight products are based on natural ingredients and are free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, SLS, PPG's, PEG, dyes, GMO's, triclosan synthetic fragrances, animal products, BPA, formaldehyde and petrochemicals. Holy long list there! Everything is designed to be safe, simple and usable by the whole family.

And also multi-tasking. Take my favourite product, for example, the Head To Toe Wash:

It's a body wash, a face cleanser AND a colour-safe shampoo. And it does all of those things incredibly well, without stripping. These are the ingredients:

Aqua, Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyglyceryl-10 Caprylate/Caprate, Acrylates Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Coco Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Sodium Chloride, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Lauryl Carboxylate, Lauryl Glucoside, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polyquaternium-7, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Camellia Oleifera (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Extract, Sorbic Acid, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Elettaria Cardamomum Seed Extract, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Wood Extract, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Rose Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Communis (Pear) Fruit Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate

I also like the coconut and olive oil-based 2-in-1 Conditioner, which can be rinsed out right away, left on for five minutes as a mask, or even kept in the hair as a lightweight leave-in conditioner.

You can use the Face & Body Exfoliator as a 10-minute hydrating, scrub-off face mask, or in the shower as a body scrub (though I find it maybe a little too gentle for the latter).

The EveryBody Lotion is an excellent year-round body hydrator with none of the questionable oils that I try to avoid.

For that reason, I would probably skip the 3-in-1 Hydrating Oil, 3-in-1 Cleansing Oil and Anything Balm, as these three are PUFA oil-based... I'm also just wary of oils on my face in general, because THIS

The only product I haven't had the chance to try yet is the 24Hr Face Cream, but its ingredients look really good!

Everything is priced between $11.99 and $14.99, which is fantastic considering the quality of ingredients. Between this and the recent Joe Fresh skincare launch, hopefully we're seeing a new trend here—safe beauty products that are also affordable and accessible!
