If my 2.5 decades of Canadian winters doesn't qualify me to choose a great lip balm, then I don't know what does.
Ever since my beloved Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner was discontinued (why do brands always pull their best prods?!), I've been searching for a replacement. I've tried, and then dismissed, pretty much every drugstore lip balm out there. Nivea, Chapstick, Blistex, Softlips, eos, Vaseline, Burt's Bees, Carmex, Smith's Rosebud Salve, Maybelline Baby Lips, Lip Smackers—seriously, the list goes on.
Finally, I turned to the "serious skincare" aisle of my local Shoppers Drug Mart and discovered RoC Enydrial Repairing Lip Care. And honestly? It's even better than my former Holy Grail lip balm.
Colour-less, scent-less and taste-less, this miracle balm leaves my lips moisturized for at least three to four hours before I even need to re-apply. The soft formula goes on thickly, but doesn't feel waxy or greasy. In fact, the finish hits right between shiny and matte, so your lips have a healthy sheen (but they're not so shiny that your boyfriend will have problems swiping it for himself). It also makes for a great layer of hydration under lipstick.
Enydrial's only fault is that it doesn't have SPF. But that would likely add a chemically taste or whitish cast. If you'll be outdoors a lot, make sure to apply a separate SPF to your lips.
Already got chapped lips? I have just the beauty hack for you. Apply a thin layer of Enydrial, then take a plain ol' Q-tip and gently run it along your lips, rotating the Q-tip as you go. You might doubt that this is abrasive enough, but it really will slough off that dead skin in the most gentle way possible. Finish with another swipe of balm, and you're good to go!
